I heard this on the radio today and really listened to the lyrics. I thought about what the world was like in the 60s when this was written and the sentiment behind it. The world really is a different place today and do you think anybody could write this song today?

Was the same in the 60's when the Shirelles did the song, so I'm sure there will be more to come. I do like the faster tempo of the Shirelles though.

I don't know, it seems pretty apropos in light of today's hook up culture. A lot of girls are still getting used by guys who just want to get in their pants and are consequently afraid of getting into relationships at all.

i just wonder if girls really care about giving up their virginity anymore. It seems like it is just something that they need to do by a certain age to be accepted by their friends.

Normal girls are horny af when they reach puberty. I think that has always been the case. They long for boyfriends. Since the advent of birth control, it's only religious and social norms that prevent them from embracing their sexuality.

But I think healthy minded, self actualized women live life in pursuit of their dreams. They realize that virginity is pointless self denial.

I think retaining their virginity is something women do because of social pressure, not the other way around.

I can't see any value in virginity. I support women's sexual liberation if it means having boyfriends and learning about relationships.

I am grateful to have started high school in 1970. I don't understand why things got more and more up tight over the years. I thought society would progress, not regress.

I think you would struggle to find anyone with enough talent to write a song like that, let alone have that ear for a melody that strong.
