Why are there not many mixed genre radio stations?

Like a radio station that can play classic rock one minute then top 40 pop, country, or soft rock the next. Like mix up the genres, I think people would like that.

Because most people don't listen to many different genres.

So its best to stick with one genre and find that niche and attract a specific audience. While mixing lots of different genres would piss off most people and they find a different radio station.

I agree with you in Pennsylvania I live not far from Pittsburgh, Pa and all the channels play is depressing sad country songs, so I give up and much rather listen to my YouTube Channel.

We have a station called mix that is just that. Aside from like heavy metal and classical, it plays a bit of everything.

Nobody would listen to station like that. Everyone wants to hear music that they like and not stuff they don't. It is bad enough the have commercials

Probably because it's harder to sell advertising with a less clearly-defined business model.
