Now that the hype has died down, why didn't you like Hogwarts Legacy?

For those who didn't obviously. Personally I didn't play it much even though I was waiting so bad for it before it got out. I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like the time period of the game, the whole starting as a 5th year, character feels like a Mary sue trope. Playing the character doesn't feel as free as I though it would be. I don't know how to explain but it almost feel like playing a visual novel. I love Skyrim so I know maybe my expectations were high but I felt it wasn't expecting too much for THE Harry Potter game. Why didn't you like?

I'll caveat this with the fact I've read the books and seen the movies, and that's about it prior to that game. As far as the developer is concerned, the only past title I had played was Mad Max, which I thought was alright. I mostly got it out of morbid curiosity, so my expectations were low and found it to be decent overall, but hardly worth the noise it made for better or worse.

What you said about the main character is easily the worst part, and I think it was done entirely because the developers just wanted to do a one-off game rather than a series. I'm surprised Rowling greenlit that story because it seems to undermine what she created and has generally been very protective over. The only aspect I'd give high marks to is the world design, especially involving Hogwarts Castle. The story, dialogue, and characters are awful, and I think at least part of that regarding the story is because they rushed and cut content to meet a deadline. Ultimately, that's become the depressing standard for video games and a major reason why I've been enjoying them less and less over the last ~7 years.

I haven’t felt that magical feeling when playing a game in a long time and I felt that when I first started playing Hogwarts Legacy. It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside and I got lost exploring for hours. That experience itself was worth getting the game, however I did get bored of the story after awhile. It wasn’t engaging enough for me, but I didn’t go into it expecting it to be like other games. Honestly I think they did ok on it and hopefully the next game is even better if they make more
