Mine is ice hockey. I guess when I was a little kid I watched on TV and was really enamored with the fighting. Some kids want to grow up to be astronauts, I wanted to be a hockey enforcer, lmao. But when I got the “Learn To Skate” flyer sent home with me in kindergarten that was usually the start of the path to hockey, my parents weren’t willing to do it, knowing how time consuming it was, and it was questionable if we could even afford it. It’s a big time and money commitment at the youth level, especially if you’re good and have post-high school aspirations. So my folks said no, and I just played other sports and continued to admire it from afar.
Fast forward to a few years ago, and my mom died so I moved home to take care of my disabled father. I had been away from where I grew up since I left for college, and now I was back. I quickly remembered how big hockey is around here, and I live about five minutes from a rink…. but I’m 40-something now. It’s too late. You’re either in at the ground floor or it never happens, right? Welp, apparently I was wrong.
On a whim, I stopped into the rink hoping to talk to someone and just ask if there was any avenue for an adult to get into it. No one was in the office, but there was a little shelf of brochures, and sure enough, one was for adult hockey classes.
I went out that week and bought skates, and started going to the public skating hour on Friday nights to get my legs under me. Once I was fairly comfortable, I bought the rest of the gear, and I signed up for the class, after a couple months of getting ready. I got started but OF COURSE it was 2020, so everything got shut down a few weeks in🤦♂️ But once everything opened up, I got right back to it, and after a year of classes, I joined a low-level “beer league” where you get drafted to a team. I’m still trying to get legitimately good at it, but I’ve improved a ton. Plus I fought a kid my first season and won via knockdown, so…. childhood dream attained? Sort of?😂
🎶And I’ve been waiting for this moment, for alllll myyyy liiiiffffeeee…hold ooonnnnn😝 I may only score a few goals a season, but everyone knows not to mess with me, and I take more pride in that than anything, lmao.

Thanks for sharing... I am glad that you've been able to attain your childhood dream. That's awesome! What's your next goal to achieve?

soccer in particular (and later with football), which was the very first one I started to play
I got into around age six and in elementary school... sports were the one thing in which I ventured to be more social and to be among the people, since I was very shy as a kid, this was my way to deal with it and actually pushed and forced myself to belong in there...
what really got me into sports... was all the fun and the challenge that represented to me, the rushes of anxiety and stress actually turned into rushes of adrenaline and other feel good stuff, lol12 Reply- 1 y
That's really cool. Are you still involved in playing sports?

yes... not doing it as much today, but yes... at least once a week

It switches between writing fanfiction, and drawing I guess.
I read a bunch of stories young cringey teenagers wrote on different fora and eventually I found fanfiction and someday I started to write my own fanfictions. I already wrote a little before that. So it came kinda naturally.
And I drew with my brother growing up. He introduced me to manga, and we would draw after some of the characters in the books.
It just developed after that.22 Reply- 1 y
What kind of fan fiction do you write? I am also a writer, though I struggle to get paid for it. I always wanted to be able to draw. I've only ever been able to draw one thing, a mountain scene with hills and water.

I mainly write in anime Fandom, like now it's My Hero Academia. And it's usually some sort of romance, or smut. Straight couples as well as gay couples.
Hey, it just takes practice! I for sure am still learning ^^
And honestly, I would looooove to get paid for writing. But fanfiction is so much fun, and I can get the readers' immediate reaction.

Ultra long-range shooting :D
I always wanted to be a soldier. Unfortunately, quite early, I realized I had no chance to join the army. I'm simply too short :D
So I'm a fan of special forces from different countries (SAS at the top of my list) and read and watch a lot of materials together with honing my skills on different ranges. I own a sports license and participate in contests and competitions.10 Reply

1K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. The Beatles hit the U. S. when I was ten. I decided that I wanted to play the guitar and got my first one when I was eleven. I took some lessons and got pretty decent by high school. I was playing rock music in garage bands, playing lead guitar and lead vocals. Those talents served me well.
My dad was the lead machinist in the experimental machine lab at a top aerospace corporation. They built the spacecraft from Mercury through the Space Shuttle. I got really interested in that stuff, as well as aircraft. During the 1980's, I collected a lot of space memorabilia.13 Reply- 1 y
Do you still play guitar and sing? Do you still have the stuff you collected?

I had a band (bass, drums, keyboards, and me on guitar and lead vocals) until 2020 when the covid mandates shut everything down. I haven't played since. I sing around the house sometimes, but that's about it.
And yes, I still have the space memorabilia. I would actually like to sell it. There's a lot, all the way up through the end of the Shuttle program. - 1 y
That is really cool that you had your own band. It's really too bad that it broke up because of Covid. That sure does sound like a lot of memorabilia.

It is hard to pick one that is the favorite. I love all. Sports is the worst. It has the highest highs and the lowest lows When my favorite teams win huge games, bowl games, championships, beat their rivals, that is a high the other categories can't contend with but when they lose, have bad seasons, lose to rivals, have crushing, heart breaking losses, I wish I never even started caring about sports because it hurts.
Reading and Music are probably the most consistent always there for me hobbies. Sitting and reading a good book or listening or playing good music is always a good thing.
10 Reply Hmmmm? I don't have any "hobbies" per se? I did used to build model flying rockets with parachute recovery systems... Guess that is a hobby?
Now I just have 'activities... Yoga, music, etc.
Erotica... is that a hobby?
12 Reply- 1 y
Were you a teen or an adult when you built the rockets? My boys got into building those for a while when they were in Boy Scouts. Why'd you stop?
Erotica could be a hobby depending on whether you write it or not. - 1 y
@Hawkes_Lady I started as a PRE-TEEN and continued until adult hood, but did not have the technical to really build a 'real' rocket from scratch. That would be a GREAT hobby

Working out and going to the gym.. I've always been into working out, but it was mostly home workouts and I was on and off, til 2019 when I got a gym membership.. Then, I took it seriously, started seeing crazy results and been kind of addicted ever since..
10 Reply Gaming is probably the biggest one, so it has got to be the favorite. My father introduced me to it.
There are so many different genres, it's a fun way to spend time with friends when you can't meet up in person.
I have also made new friends who I've known for many years now. It's like GAG but you play something inbetween while conversing with one another.10 ReplyI enjoy fixing things. I like getting old gas powered machines like lawn mowers or snow blowers and fixing them. I also like to restore old things. I like building things and working with my hands. I like using my tools and it’s fun to use a special tool that has only a few purposes.
