Did Billy Joel and Jimi Hendrix really get involved in a boxing match?

I was watching a film from the 1970s, where two men who looked exactly like Billy Joel and Jimi Hendrix were fighting each other in a boxing ring.

As far as I know, Jimi was nearly 10 years older than Billy. By the time Jimi was murdered, Billy was already in his second band. One was called, Attila, the other was The Hassles. In one of the two it was just a drummer and Billy on his organ. Most likely, Billy was in his late teens or so by the time they did their first album shortly before Jimi died. (Just checked, Billy was 21 when Jimi died. Jimi was already playing behind Little Richard and with The Upsetters in the early to mid `60's.)

Probably not. Hendrix was born in 1942, was based on the West Coast, and died in 1970. Billy Joel was born in 1949 and his first album didn't even come out until 1971 with his first hit, "Piano Man", in 1973. He became much more significant after he released his album "The Stranger" in 1977.

I seriously doubt it. I'm pretty sure that even *I* could kick Billy Joel's ass if it came to it.

Somehow I doubt that former Screaming Eagle Hendrix boxed against 5'5 Billy Joel.

Yes @Nikki1989 is right. Jimi Hendrix died in 1970. He was killed by dope.

He choked on his own vomit while sleeping, caused by alcohol and sleeping pills. According to the autopsy, there was no evidence of hard drugs.
