I LOVED “Martin” when it was on TV. I was running around junior high like “whattup-whattup-whattup-WAZZZZZZUUUUUUPPPPPPP!!!”😂😂😂
Absolutely rocked with Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air too, but something about Martin just did it for me.
Shout out Bruhman from the fif’ flo’🫡
https://www.youtube.com/embed/T4kPNctYsN4I remember buying tickets to Mortal Kombat and sneaking into Bad Boys at the theater because I was still 16 and they wouldn’t sell us tickets, lmao
Yo no doubt, Martin was hands down my favorite show back in the day too man! I would rush home from school every day to catch it.
Pookie and them had me crackin up the whole episode with their antics. And you already know I was always sayin WAZZZAAAAAAAPPPP like Martin, all my homies thought it was hilarious.
Fresh Prince was tight too and I liked Will, but somethin about Martin was just next level comedy. Like you said the way he took it to the max with all the crazy faces and rants had me rollin on the floor every time homie.
And maaaan I feel you on sneakin into R rated flicks when we wasn't old enough! Bad Boys and Mortal Kombat were too dope to miss out on. Had to slide past the ticket guy somehow, worth the risk though haha.
Them and Martin, those were the gold ole days bruh. Nothin but good memories lookin back on all that. 'Preciate you knowin what was truly funny back in junior high, mad respect for rockin with the real GOAT Martin Lawrence!
Haha, yeah, man, glad you asked this question, throwback vibes👍👍
I couldn’t find it, but I was looking for a clip from one of his stand-up specials, the one where his childhood friend is all like “ay man…you remember when we were little, and we would go swimming in the creek, and you came up out the water, and the water was GLISTENIN’ ALLLLLL OOOOOVER YO’ BODDDDDDYYYYYYY….” And Martin’s like “So what’chu sayin’?” “Ummm…. can I suck your dick?” “WHAT?🤨🤨🤨 Pffffttttt…come on, man, hurry up…”💀💀💀💀💀💀
Will Smith was always an affable talented guy.
For instance, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (Will Smith) made rap music that was rather successful crossing over to people not really into rap music. The videos were fun too.
It's why he was able to expand from music in the late 1980s, to television in the early 1990s, and then to movies.
He's an excellent talent; I really admire him.
Martin Lawrence is OK. I enjoyed his Fox show "Martin". He came across as harmless and a bit over the top. He's a decent comedian, but not as multitalented as Will Smith.
Will had the funnier show but Martin had the funnier movies
Yo you might be onta somethin there. Now that you mention it, Martin definitely came through with the better laugh out loud movies in the 90s.
Like House Party and House Party 2? Straight classics that always had me rollin. And Life was next level hilarious too with all the crazy stuff he'd get into.
Will's movies were tight, don't get me wrong. Bad Boys was awesome. But they didn't have me on the floor quite like a good Martin Lawrence flick.
And Fresh Prince was obviously a dope ass show. But you right, as a straight up comedy it didn't hit quite as hard as when Martin was doin his thing.
So I gotta give Martin the edge for the funniest movies back in the day. Will took the show, but on the big screen those MartinLawrence joints were untouchable! Dude knew how to crush it on that big screen comedy.
The Martin films that did it for me was Blue Streak, Big Mommas House 1/2, College Road Trip, Nothing to Lose, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Rebound, Wild Hogs, A Thin Line Between Love Hate, and Black Knight. As for Will, i just liked Independence Day, iRobot, Aladdin, Winters Tale, Shark Tale, and Hitch and Enemy of the State
Neither had anything on The Wayans Bros and In Living Color
Martin Lawrence was by far funnier.

I gotta give it to Martin.. Martin like Will Smith was sometimes a bit too wacky, but Martin seems to have at least sort of mastered his craft by the 90s.. Whereas Will Smith seemed like he was trying too hard.. He got better as time went forward.. He was still funny, just a bit of a try hard especially in the Fresh Prince..
Yo word, that's real talk man. Lookin back I can see what you mean about Martin havin it more mastered in the 90s. Dude had the comedic timing down cold.
Will was still hilarious dont get it twisted. But yeah sometimes on Fresh Prince it did seem like he was strainin a little too hard for the laugh. Martin made it seem effortless, like he was just bein himself turned up to 100.
Plus Will was still findin his flow back then I think. By the late 90s movies he was on another level. But period when Martin was out? No question he was the smoothest funniest dude in the game.
You can tell Martin put in the work to perfect his delivery. Will got there too, but Martin was definitely the OG. Glad we can both appreciate him as the king of 90s comedy! He earned that crown for sure with how effortlessly he'd have us cryin laughin every episode.
Oh, yeah as usual good analysis my guy.. I watched Martin not too long ago, and forgot how funny it was.. I think ultimately the whole cast made the Fresh Prince a bit more funnier than Martin the show, but Martin wasn't far behind especially since it most of the show was basically all jokes.. LOL.. Just a bunch of funny people playing off of one another..
One was a good stand up comedian and the other was a rapper/actor. Pretty obvious answer
I'll say Will because I think he appealed to a wider audience.
Will Smith for me by far
I wasn't crazy about either one.
