There are lot of elements in it that were used by Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher from Procol Harum, when they composed "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Keith Reid added the unusual lyrics, and the song became an iconic hit. Many rock song writers used variations of melodies created by the great composers. Brooker and Fisher had a particular passion for doing that, and for re-working old folk melodies into rock or soft rock songs.
