Have you watched Poor Things from the Oscars?

Seems like Poor Things hit its mark on the night with 11 nominations. Emma Stone won the best actress for Poor Things. Have you watched it lately? Is it a good movie?

Actually my friend suggested it me to watch like a week ago but didn't have a chance to watch it..

If it weren't for the nominations, I never would have even heard of it.

After looking up its plot, I'm more disgusted than anything else. It's yet another attempt to dance around the subject of normalizing pedophilia, apparently based on a book from the 90s, but it sounds heavily inspired by "Heart of a Dog." I'm sure some are proud to have won some awards off of this, but I'd be embarrassed to even be affiliated. When I see that stuff like this was the competition, it makes me pretty happy that Oppenheimer basically swept the awards.

Wow, new Yorgos Lanthimos movie! I didn't even know about it. I'll definitely have to watch it. I'm a huge fan of both Lanthimos and Emma Stone.

Have you seen Greener Grass by any chance? It's more on the nose in humor than a Lanthimos movie but I often love very surreal comedy in general with very dark undertones.

I haven't seen this one, but I like dark comedy I will definetly check it! I like Lobster but I think my favorite is Dogtooth.. I find myself thinking about that movie from time to time.. Definetly effected me!

I just ended up watching Poor Things. It's great! It's an Emma Stone showpiece and she's all over the place with her character (in a good way).

One thing is that I think this is Lanthimos' most conventional film. It's his most wacky and surreal in terms of setting being a sci-fi, but quite conventional in terms of the character and dialogue not quite as deadpan in is humor (although still unmistakably a Lanthimos film) and even more so than The Favourite.

So I'll have to mull over it a bit since it lacks that extremely surreal comedic tone that we find in the likes of Dogtooth, The Alps, The Lobster, and The Killing of the Sacred Deer. Yet I found it thoroughly entertaining.

From what I have heard about the movie it's just Hollyweird perverts trying to normalize degeneracy and pedophilia. I have zero interest in watching it, much like nearly everything else they have put out since 2020.
