For me, I'd make Jon Snow the king in and marry Daenerys Targaryen (who does not end up killing everyone). I'd also make it so that they kill Cersei Lannister together and change the kingdom for the better. And Bran would be Jon Snow and Daenerys' advisor.

I'd also make it so that Jon Snow was the killer of the night king. Not Arya Stark 😂 There was so much build up for the war with the night walkers for it to end so quickly and without someone from the night's watch ending it.
If you could rewrite the ending of a famous book or movie, how would you change it?
How far back can we go? Game of Thrones really started to go off the rails piecemeal, as each plotline ran out of book material to adapt. In order to bring things to a worthy (not just satisfying) resolution, you'd need to bring in things that were left out entirely, like Young Griff, to make the conflict between Varys and Littlefinger more than the damn footnote we got (and so both of their characters could get decent sendoffs, my WORD).
In a discussion of Disney's first Star Wars movie (wow, I've actually forgotten the title), I told a friend "the scene where Han gets killed is so delayed, when it's so obvious what's going to happen, that I half expected Linda Hamilton to show up and shout 'Han!' immediately beforehand". Both stared at me.
"Linda Hamilton?" I repeated. More stares.
"Beneath the Planet of the Apes?" I clarified. More stares, then:
"Um, you mean Linda Harrison?" one asked.
Whoops.
"Yes," I said, chuckling, "if Linda Hamilton shows up and shouts your name, the next step is tossing you a shotgun, and then you blast your way out of the area together." Nods all around. "That would've been a better ending to the movie." More nods. "In fact... that would be a better ending than most movies get.".
It has since become my test for ending quality; whether that would be better or worse than the actual result. Game of Thrones definitely counts; I think the question there is WHOSE name she shouts before tossing the shotgun.
I'd make Yagami Light succeed in building a utopia (after a kind of redemption arc where he'd get healed of his god complex, so that he'd definitely deserve a happy end) and I would have Amane Misa have her happy end with the improved Yagami Light (she really, really, really deserves it). I might even try to find a way to bring a certain devoted girlfriend and her somewhat dim-witted boyfriend back to life, as at least the girlfriend did not deserve to die.
it's a story that i want to change. the story of Adam and Eve. i wish Adam just marry the snake the virgin cunninh snake. how i wish Eve just marry someone else. the one who would truly value her. thankfully Eve is given the go signal that she is imperfect she doesn't have to be hard on herself. God will not get mad at her. Eve is now free

American History X. While I get the message they were trying to send, they went about it the wrong way. If anything, that ending only made you sympathetic towards Ed Norton, because it's completely rational to be racist towards someone who would murder you for blowing cigarette smoke in their face.
I would've just had them kiss and make up after his brother reformed him. It would've shown that people can change, and you can't generalize and entire group of people. Instead, it only further reinforced the negative stereotypes which caused Edward Norton's racism in the first place.
Arya killing the night king was so horrible, and it was so obviously retrofitted with the eyes prophecy. D&D seemed to fail to understand without GRRM's writing that subverting expectations is only interesting if the bread crumbs have been left all along to set up the deviation from our typical expectations.
Well I don't know how famous this movie really is but I would change the ending of gran Torino with Clint Eastwood. I would've written his character to kill all those gangsters in the end like how his characters would do in the western movies.
@AngryCarl and besides we're talking about if you could rewrite fiction anyway, so how realistic can you be when talking about recreating something that's imaginary anyway.
I'd change the ending of a movie. You young kids haven't seen the movie Angels with Dirty Faces and you never will. Be that as it may, I would change it so the movie ends with the Cagney character punching the Priest character so that he falls down in a coma, and then goes to the electric chair with his typical air of imperturbable insouciance.

The ending to Huckleberry Finn was contrived: Huck shows up in Baton Rouge, and is mistaken for Tom Sawyer who just happens to be visiting. Not sure how I'd rewrite it.

I was very disappointed in the way that Gibbs was written out of NCIS. Since Mark Harmon's real life wife was in the show at the end I had hoped he would find love in his life and he will live happily ever after.
Spoilers: In Game of Thrones, I would have had Daenerys simply drop off to her body's demise while flying, with us uncerain if she even knew what she was doing, rather than commanding King's Landing's fiery doom.
