persian is a whole different language. it has a long list of borrowings from Arabic, but it is mainly an Indo-European language. نام which is nām is literally the equivalent of the word name or nome. اسم which is Esm or Ism is a word of Arabic origin that is commonly used in both Persian and Turkish. The names for family member is a whole different story by the way. For example, مادر which is mādar literally means mother. In short, you would probably come across more words of Indo-European origin than words of Arabic origin if you tried to learn persian; however, the connection is mostly superficially invincible and requires an in-depth look.
