Yes, I've read the unabridged book. Several times. Jean Valjean finding Cosette always chokes me up, Gavroche dodging the bullets, Eponine's unrequited love for Marius Pontmercy and courage. Some of it is admittedly dry, but it helps give context.
If you aren't a reader, I like the film with Liam Neeson (in spite of the liberties it takes; I know purists will have a fit). I think it gets the message across, though. My favorite is the one with Dominic West as Valjean and Andrew Davies screenwriting. Andrew Davies is equal to Julian Fellowes as a writer, in my opinion.
The musical is classic in every way. It was a tragedy when it was filmed as a movie. Some actors and actresses have talent in both singing and acting (Rachel Zegler comes to mind), but the film musical didn't hit all the markers for me in that area.
No, just saw the movie and lots of YouTube videos highlighting songs from the musical.
No but I hope to.
