Thinking about maybe try to write a book? Any advice?

Thinking of trying to write a book. I haven't written one before but I use to write poem or song idea to escape reality. Nothing really published or anything just a bit for myself. My biggest fall is the come up with a full story book idea that I want to finish and release. Kind of thought about looking through some of my old idea and polishing up some or try to develop a story in a long run. Which I'm trying to write on a idea now that more story base then just trying to make word flow on page like a poem or a song. Any advice
