Do you a favorite style or technique of guitar playing?

I used to be pure shred. Yngwie, Michael Angelo Batio, Blackmore, Uli, Gilbert, Jennifer Batten, etc. It took awhle to learn to "play for the song." If it calls for a crazy solo then I will by all means do that. If it calls for a Gilmouresque slow but tasty, then that. If it just calls for holding a rhythm with no solo, then that.

I wish I could shred, but I doubt that I will ever master that one.

It takes a lot of practice and some just can't get up to that speed. I can play fast, but I can't touch Michael Angelo's speed. And honestly most people seem to prefer tasty rather that or Yngwie's "floor it all the time" style anyway.

Sure, I let someone else play guitar, someone who knows what they are doing.

When I was a teenager, I got a guitar for my birthday, and I really tried to learn to play it... failed miserably.

I tried to maintain my nails for classical, but I always broke one. So I vote for flat pickin'.

You can play classical with fingertips rather than nails. Old classical players before Segovia often preferred that.

I was classically trained, so I was surrounded by absolute snobs. They looked down on Flamenco, because it's considered "folk music." Call it what you want, but those players are amazing. I love Flamenco. Listen to Jose Feliciano.

@pinkCadillac2 Right? It's the same energy they used to have (I guess some probably still have) towards Jazz. They see Flamenco being folksy as a bad thing, but it takes more talent to impress a Philistine like me! ;)
