Each guitar has its own specific use and purpose. I like the sound of electric guitar the most. I'm a fan of electric guitar. Bass guitar does not interest me. I also like the classical guitar very much, it is the ancestor of the guitar.
+1 yI like electric guitar, and that's what I play. Although, I have thought about maybe getting into playing bass too.

+1 yacoustic not listed?
I prefer Telecaster as I don't have one and I love those lead tones. second is Taylor 6 string and maybe a Martin dreadnought at times... but I don't have the voice to go with it... has to be in the right hands.

Acoustic guitar is similar to classical guitar. The difference between them is that the acoustic guitar sounds cleaner and all of the strings are made of steel, while on the classical guitar, the first three strings from bottom to top are made of fishing line (nylon) and the other three strings are made of metal. What can be done on an acoustic guitar can also be done on a classical guitar, but the sound quality is better on an acoustic guitar.

@Smartman5 Ehhhh, well, it's not quite that simple. It's not just the string materials that make the difference, it's also the construction that makes them very different too. The different patterns of wood bracing inside of a classical guitar is very different than the bracing pattern inside of a steel-stringed guitar, which alters the tonality between the two quite a bit. The bracing inside a classical guitar is also lighter weight in construction, whereas the bracing inside a steel-stringed guitar is sturdier by necessity due to the much higher string tension of the strings.
In addition, the typical woods used for classical and steel-stringed guitars tends to be different as well, which also contributes to the different tonalities of both. Also, steel-stringed guitars tend to be offered with a much wider array of woods compared to classical guitars that tend to stick to more traditional woods that they have been made with for centuries. Unless they are more budget-oriented guitars, and the woods offered tend to be more "untraditional". Then there's also the differences between string tension and fretboard width, which also makes a big difference in the feel and playability of each guitar.
But if you talk to a steel-stringed guitarist and a classical guitarist about the different constructions, woods and tonalities between the two styles of guitar, they'll tell you it's the difference between chalk and cheese. They stand separately on their own merits. - +1 y

Damn, that gif didn't animate. lol
+1 yAs your playing develops you will find a place for them all. When you add slide to you portfolio you will want a different sound. And remember amplifiers are the other side of the equation. Don't limit yourself.

I am seventy three and my hands are shot. I played finger-style all my life, Classical, steelstring , 12 string , Humbuckers Single coil pickups, resophonic, lapsteel. I think I am going to built a bass and try that. I even tried banjo and mandolin, and ukulele.

+1 yWhat do you mean by, electronic guitar? Warr guitar? Flutar? Chapman Stick? Roland GR-707?
When listening to music, aside from the drums, my ear tends to go for the bass. I've never been able to make guitar cords, my fingers are too big.02 Reply- +1 y
Electric, I get but, you said, "electronic", that means you COULD be talking about guitars that are part synthesizer or some other form, of hybrid.
Like the sound of a guild acoustic coming through an amp

Maybe because I'm more used to it? Hard to say. My son is a musician. And he plays the bass guitar, so I've heard countless improvisations and compositions :D

It's the one electric guitar that's extraordinary in sound (and sound range).
Only Gibson comes kind of close.
Many of the very best players use/used it: Page, Gilmour, Knopfler, S. R. Vaugn, Clapton, Blackmore, and so many others.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yDidn't know guitar even has types
