Did you ever see this episode of Star Trek?

Question

It was called the Deadly Years and the crew of the Enterprise was exposed to some kind of radiation that caused the crew to rapidly age. It was apparent that Capt, Kirk could no longer perform his duties so a deskbound bureaucrat pulls rank and assumes command of the Enterprise. The Enterprise encounters an alien spaceship and soon the Enterprise is in danger of being destroyed. Dr McCoy cures Captain Kirk and he returns to the bridge and in a matter of minutes he comes up with a plan to fool the aliens long enough for the Enterprise to escape.

Does this remind anyone of what is going on in the government. We had a weak, feckless president that has gotten the country into a deep hole. On his return the former president assumes command and in a matter of days the country seems to be back on the right track.

Interesting thoughts you have there, I did not thinking of the episode until now. You mentioning all of that does seem to make sense. I loved watching Star Trek as a kid on the off chance we would get the rabbit ears to work. The other day I went to help mom with things around her home. She has cable television, and I do not. Thus when I saw she had the tv, on and Star Trek was on I was going to attempt to watch it with her. Honestly it never came on instead it was svengooely or something like that I probably spelled that wrong. I was bummed for the first time in ages I was actually gonna attempt to watch television. Then it lied saying Star Trek would be on, and nothing no Star Trek. I usually fall asleep tryna watch television as I am unable to sit for long periods without falling asleep. Thus in this attempt of tryna watch it I was bummed.

Oh my... Well I don't think I've watched any of those since I was in pigtails and the show was the only thing on the TV after my homework was done... but yeah I vaguely remember an episode with Shatner and the guys all being old. They couldn't do anything about his toned arms and chest, though. 😂

As for parallels to real life situations... it's not super shocking. (Check out ancient Greek/Chinese/Indian/etc. mythologies and you'll see similar stories.)

I don’t connect 60s episodes to US politics out of context to form my own narrative…. I accept the facts of the substance. Here are examples, MLK Jr. encouraging Nichelle Nichols to stay on Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry envisioned an enterprise that was ‘the world’ & ‘the planets’ liberally united with Democratic standards so you have African American, American, Scottish, Asian, and half Vulcan half Human on the same ship working together. Now if I were to play the narrative game (which is stupid) I’d connect the ‘DEI’ stuff though I’m not about that, I’m about the context of the show & the creator and leaving it there with no political agenda to gain or contribute other than the one that the creator had.

I've heard of Star Trek but have never seen an episode. On a side note, I've watched a show called, In Search Of..., on YouTube when I've looked for documentaries and I think one of the actors was the host. That was actually a good show and he has a very pleasant voice for narrating. I'm a geek, I know.

I have seen every  Start Trek  TOS episode at least twice, though this is not one of my favorites. Star Trek  is known for covering societal issues. Maybe this 1960s episode was ahead of its time?

In this case most was common sense, pardon political prisoners, close border. But for economy in 2017 trump was like kirk mental out maneuvering everyone.

I hope he can now figure out undo the democrat mess too.
