I watched many of the early SNL episodes on Peacock during the pandemic and I will say that John Belushi was the most overrated of everyone. Maybe people laughed mainly cuz he was a fatso? I don't know. His skits were repetitive and boring. I also read he was a jerk, especially to the female cast members. The samurai guy wasn't funny. The bumble bee wasn't funny. The hamburger cheeseburger thing wasn't funny. And those were all supposed to be his classics. Yawn 🥱. The best cast member from the early days was Bill Murray, but he started in Season 2. He was consistently good.
