A lot of rock & metal artists would be displeased with their fans not looking at their values while they were alive also the positivity they preached and ‘slight’ political messages. They don’t care as long as it sells, though would try to meet the moment with engagement at least I would think so.

I think people like George Carlin would use his new audience as a way of teaching them current politics with jokes & humor as he always did.
The ‘new’ fans that applaud him for his ‘we swam in raw sewage’ are the same that ignore his takes on abortion, Christian religion / religion as a whole, and others. The whole point was to bring smiles, laughter, and joy not hatred or bigotry or ignorance.
He would utilize moment to educate, not a total conversion to make them like him - it would be towards common ground & food for thought.
