Do you like the same kind of music your parents would listen to?

It’s seeming very apparent to me that a lot of people’s music taste come from their parents just because they grew up with it. I like the music my parents would listen to but I’m not that picky about music. I can listen to almost anything so there’s definitely some music I like that my parents hate too.

Well my parents are listening to harp music while White Baby Jesus sings the blues. They are both dead. But when they were alive no, they were stuck on the stuff from their 20's and 30's. I was primarily focused on the pop and rock I grew up with. But I had much broader taste than my parents including classical, jazz, blues, R&B, soul, metal, progressive rock, and country.

I think every generation gets stuck on the music they experience between say age 15 to about age 30. After that, life is focused on careers and families and there's no time for music.

I'm only joking about the "ew" part. I grew up with a mom that listened to country, and a dad that listened to oldies (mostly the 50's & 60's). I don't hate either if those genres, but they are most definitely not my cup of tea.

Maybe it was an act of rebellion, or maybe just my own style, but I gravitated towards 70's & 80's rock ("classic" rock, now) and metal. That's still my preferred genre of music, now.

Ah haha, my parents are the same. My mom is into the classic rock while my dad enjoys country and classic rock. Mom isn’t a big country fan but she can tolerate it. I was my dads country concert buddy growing up because I enjoyed it too

My parents' taste in music and the way they push into learning music practice, theory, and history was the only good thing they ever did for me. They had impeccable taste in music, and the genres they listened to I still listen to this day.

Growing up, I was definitely influenced by my parents' music taste. We listened to a lot of classic rock and jazz, which I still appreciate today. 🎶 However, as I've grown, my taste has expanded to include indie, K-pop, and electronic music as well. Festivals and concerts introduced me to new sounds, so while I love my parents’ music, my playlist is quite diverse now! 🌟

my parents had a decent amount of records. my older sister was the only one that was allowed to put them on so it was her favorites of my parents. i really only remember, neil diamond, michael jackson and olivia newton john. i think it did influence it a little. we'd run around the living room which looking back was very dangerous in our house. i still like pop.
