The song's chorus states..

The song was popular. It peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #1 on the Easy Listening chart.

It's one of my old song favorite and Mama's and Papa's almost all my sibling too maybe and I'm sure my extended number of relatives... And I think or know I sing it when I still can sing, I don't know when since I cannot sing anymore til d present because my lungs gave way when I'm already soft spoken and when I always talk with Mama and tell each other many stories maybe everyday when she's already deaf. Mama's already dead and passed away, Sep.3 2024 just last year and now there are times I still cry for her and maybe since then I earned many dreams of her! Wow!

Tom, you already know that I know these old songs and I love listening to them.
This particular song has probably happened to many of us at one time or another but it sure can eat away at a person's heart when it happens.

I enjoyed listening to the song and it brought me back in time.

It's early Saturday morning and at 5 am my radio station is playing Casey Kasums top 40 from May 31, 1982. It's remastered of course but he plays all songs from the 80's and I really enjoy listening to him show and the music. 🎶

Unfortunately, like many song lyrics, people don't listen and think critically.

If you "belong" to someone else, how do you get to the point of knowing that another person is the "right one?" And, somehow, if that happens, why do you stay with the current partner knowing they are not the "right one?" Isn't that misguided dedication? What prevents you from saying, "Current partner, I'm sorry, but my heart no longer belongs to you. It would be unfair to both of us to continue this relationship, so we need to say goodbye?"

Ahh, the 70s! I remember them and while that song doesn't do it for me it still has the atmosphere you find in their songs. Spirit filled. They had a couple that I liked quite a bit.
