I love America and am grateful to have been born here. But this song is too jingoistic, or at least it is used politically for that purpose. And it doesn't accurately portray reality. I mean, how free are we actually, especially since 911, the Patriot Act and the NDAA that we are told are for our own security?
There are a million examples of how free we are not.13 Reply- 11 mo
Yup. I feel so unfree as i freely roam and enjoy doing everything i need and want to do with my life.

Bruh.
The patriot act has yet to send me to jail or infringe on any of my freedoms.
I been free to enjoy my life how i see fit. I have not been forced to do anything against my will.
I been free to make decisions based on my moral beliefs, and not once has anyone made me go to jail for it, or taken my livelyhood from me, or any of my freedoms.
Having extra precautions has never stolen any freedom stolen from me.
I wanted to go to college for free. I got a scholarship because i can play basketball. I wanted to be a teacher here i am.
I decided to open my personal trainer business. I am a personal trainer.
I wanted to coach flag football. I do.
I wanted to coach basketball. I do
This is freedom. I am able to date who i want. See who i want.
My age has nothing to do with knowing freedom.
My life and how i live it knows what freedom looks like. I am free to chose my religion. This is a country. Free countries will also have laws that you will not like or approve of. Leaders you dislike and like, but you are free to talk trash about.

u 11 moI cry almost every time I hear this song. I think about how glad I am to have been born as an American and I remember my ancestors who helped to build this country, beginning with Richard Warren arriving on the Mayflower, and my eleven ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, and my many ancestors who served as elected officers at the local and state levels of government. Like all Americans, I owe my eternal gratitude to those who created this great country!

11 moOmg I can't believe I still remember the lyrics to this song to this day but I do thanks to 9/11. Any child who grew up during 9/11 should know this song. They played it so much.

No it was made way before that. They just played it a lot during that time.
One of my top 3 favorite songs! Also the video is great!

@exitseven MTV had a lot to do with the decreasing the quality of music, making the music video more important than the music itself.
11 mo1984 is old? 😥 What does that make ME? 😕😥
Love the song. President Trump uses it at his rallies. It really captures the essence of America.

Don't know how many who likes the video understand the ending but it's really sad. So many of the family farms in this country have had to be auctioned off because of outrageous taxes. Especially when they are passed along to the next generation and they have to pay inheritance tax. It makes it impossible for them to continue to operate the farm so they have to sell them to pay the taxes and developers take them over.
There are a lot of side effects of this farmland loss that are not so obvious.
For example we have become dependent on chemicals for our food supply, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals because the less farmland the higher the crop yield has to be on the existing land. We've made amazing achievements in that area but what it's doing to our health may be a tragic trade-off.
Taxes have many effects that people don't understand and most of them are not too good.
11 moI've always liked it! My dad is a fan of his, so I've heard a lot of his songs growing up. One thing that shocked me, is the song never went number one at the time but pretty much became our second national anthem.

11 moSpringsteen was referencing America's manifest hypocrisy in "Born In The USA," which was my late sister Wendy's bird's favourite song.(Speaking of birds, bird brain Ronnie Ray-Guns wanted to use it as his "Morning In America" 1984 Presidential campaign theme until "the Boss" told him to pound sand).

@exitseven You mean for exposing America's hypocrisy in his music? Think again, boyo.
I saw an American flag in the thumbnail. I refuse to click that link as I've no interest in anything American right now. But alas... replying to a question is the only guaranteed way to make it fuck off.

11 moFirstly it's a horrible song. Secondly Americans aren't as free as they think they are. Can you gamble? Nope. Cross the road where you like? Nope. Get an abortion? Nope.
