What's this black hole then?

High above the village of Abergynolwyn there be a big black hole in a mountain that some have named the Devil's Bumhole. From a distance it appears that smoke is billowing from the hole making a popular photography piece that people like to debate on social media.

Locals tell of a stray missile from a nearby testing site, others speculate a collapsed mine, or the entrance to Mordor.

Sorry to disappoint but its only a shadow caused by low sun casting a shadow across a natural basin.

But I'm sure the British Police can be trusted to uncover the truth about this mystery.

That would be my guess... ongoing smoke billowing... sounds like the story about a new volcano in Mexico which started with smoke coming out of a cornfield hole. Over the next months or so... a full blown volcano pushed up and erupted.

Ok - NO. That big black “hole” high above Abergynolwyn is essentially a natural (or partly modified) depression in the hillside which looks dramatically dark thanks to the sun’s angle and the bowl shape of the land. The “smoke” is not real smoke but either mist/low cloud drifting in the hollow or simply the shifting of shadowed terrain giving the illusion of smoke.
