Of course. One of my favorites, from 1930 (and thus no longer under copyright) is "Pups Is Pups". From "Pups Is Pups" article at Wikipedia:

I grew up on so many classic kids’ shows, and honestly those originals hit so much harder than most reboots 💫
The simple stories, practical effects, and that cozy, low-budget charm just felt magical as a kid. I still rewatch some of them when I paint or draw; the nostalgia boosts my creativity so much. Old-school children’s TV had such a warm, sincere vibe 💖📺

Sort of. Though It was reruns - usually tapes or dvd’s of the original movies if it wasn’t just off the tv. I have a friend who got me some of the Dogville films (now THAT’S considered obscure). A friend collects old film reels and has a hobby of converting stuff.. and has a lot of obscure stuff that people don’t get to see much.


I grew up watching cartoons, then Saturday B movie matinees, and would get old cartoon collections for gifts (1930’s Fleischer stuff, for example; I grew up loving Popeye cartoons, etc); I love the 3 stooges, Marx Bros, maybe a little Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello… so I grew up on reruns of old stuff… so I had probably seen most of the Little Rascals stuff at random… but Dogville (and some other collections) didn’t happen until I was almost an adult (or an adult) because I didn’t know anyone or have access to some of this stuff until I met other fans.


So the ‘90’s remake? I’ve seen it, but I was a bit older by then, so there’s no real nostalgia for it like with some of the originals or like some of my friends would have.

That doesn't make any sense. There was never a classic TV show called Little Rascals.

The version in your picture was a movie in 1994, and definitely was not a classic; it was a piece of junk. It wasn't a TV show, and you would have been 37 years old when it came out.

In 1955 they showed on TV a few episodes of clips from the movies, 2 years before you were born. They were never rerun, so you wouldn't have been able to have seen those at any time when you were a child.

The “original” was a silent movie in 1922, called Our Gang, 35 years before you were born. The famous version of Our Gang was a series of short clips shown in movie theaters before the main features in the early 1930s. Now we're talking 27 years before you were born.

It was called “The little Rascals” on television. Yes, it was made into a movie that I never saw. I don’t know if “Our Gang” being the original silent movie, but there certainly were reruns of the show when I was young, which is why I got to see them. They weren’t just a few episodes , it was every day at a certain time after school. They stopped airing them after some years. It was a great classic show.

The Little Rascals wasn't children's television because, in the 1930s, there was no television.
These were short films shown in theaters likely as lead-ins before the main feature. Long ago, before a main feature movie, there were many other things to watch. When you think of all the ads and trailers before a movie today, think of that time being occupied by short films like this or newsreels. Anyway, Our Gang / Little Rascals films were enjoyed by adults every bit as much as (and probably more than) kids.

@abc3643 They made a television show taking clips of the episodes from older shows made by Hal Roach in the 1930’s. He originally took clips of children playing together and there was no script, these were just children playing and being filmed. These short films were later packaged and sold to MGM and the made into a television syndicate. Episodes of those short films were shown was shown on a certain channel when I was a girl and I saw them.
You’re the 3rd person who mentioned here there was no such show. Yes, there was a show and people my age and younger watched it.

The Banana Splits was a mixture of live action segments and cartoon segments, but it was definitely a Saturday morning children's TV show. I watched it when I was a little kid. It started the same week I started kindergarten and lasted 2 years.

@amy10223 What's weird is that Banana Splits was a Saturday morning show in the US, but in the UK it was shown on a weekday during "children's hour" right after kids got home from school.

I see. My own girls saw other things on tv after school, that might have been one of those ones they missed. They saw things like Jimmy Neutron, The Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, The PowerPuff Girls, and later South Park and The Simpsons. Those were shown on Nicktoons and then other channels. They never liked Barney the Dinosaur (too corny) or Mr Rogers.
I remember running home to see Dark Shadows at 3:30. No cartoons at that age, around 6th grade.
