How Late Did You Stay Up Last Night?

I feel like this is pure korean things like sleeping is a no go. There’s a saying that goes like ‘If you sleep three hours a night, you may get into a SKY university (SKY are the three top universities in Korea); if you sleep four hours each night, you may get into another university; if you sleep five or more hours each night, forget about getting into any university.’
Damn that sounds super competitive.. I didn't know Korean study culture was like that 🤣...
I heard stories of how Japanese students would kill themselves.. but not Korean ones lol...
But why would you need to study so much? I mean are you doing extra subjects? I always thought there are plenty of hours in the day to study for those things 🤷♂️...
I don't think studying too much actually make you smarter... exercise and sleep is actually important for cognitive functions...
@007-Tarzan Well, we spend all of our days studying once school is over we go to academies and study more until like 10PM then we go home a study. Like it's really rough. Yeah they're higher suicide rates within Korean students compared to Japanese. It's just things you learn at school and all those and making sure you get everything correct and memorize everything.
Well too much studying or not, we still make it big so that's why people stick to it. There's even rules on like what to eat when studying. It's bad. There's even like class and grade rankings which makes everything much more stressful as well.
That sounds too intense for my liking 😅... in the UK it feels more natural. If you're top of the class it is probably because you are genuinely intelligent... no kid is honestly going to spend over 90% of their existence studying.
Plus I think studying is counter intuitive to actual intelligence and creativity. You just get tunnel vision in terms of exams and just making sure you get that grade... I think that why smarter over achieving kids in the west are generally more creative than their eastern counterparts... I intelligence should mean way more than just test scores...
Having said that... straight A's or getting 100% across all exams does look impressive... but at what cost?
So how many hours do Korean students normally sleep then? 3 to 4 hours?
@007-Tarzan Getting straight A's to not look like a failure and getting into a top university which means you get the best job and overall a good social standing.
I used to get like at least four hours of sleep on a good day.
Sadly around 3 am cause I'm trying to study up for final exams :(
Lol! I fell asleep super early from staying up that late the night before. I can hover around midnight... but last night it was 10:30 when I conked our.
I got back home pretty late... about 3:30am... was chilling with friends and then decided to watch a late night movie at the cinemas lol...

I stayed up until... Almost 11 PM. Since I practically, definitely, completely, entirely, certainly end college 😄, I will be sleeping sooner and start working out for the rest of the year, or I will try to.
