Are you taller than your parents?

Question

I was always the tallest girl in my class and I outgrew my mom in middle school. All the men on my entire dad's side of the family are very tall with the shortest of my uncles being 6ft. Everyone including the men on my mom's side are short. My nephews are definitely following the trend on my dad's side as they are very long limbed even at a young age like we were. Any family portraits we take all together make it clear who's who. I think my mom was a bit jealous that I outgrew her, but I love it. My grandmother used to always use me to get stuff down from high shelves so she wouldn't have to use a ladder.  Did you ever think about your height as kid and wonder if you were going to outgrow your parents? Are you still wishing you could? Are you in a family where you and your siblings have totally different heights?

Yes.

Due to the difference in nutrition, I (who grew more than half my life here in the U. S.) am taller than both my parents (who grew to full adult-size back in the Philippines). Actually, while I am still considered short for a male at 5ft8in/173cm here in the U. S., I was surprised to find myself taller than my fellow Filipino back in the PH with an average male height of 5ft4in/163cm.

This goes to show that 'short' or 'tall' are subjective, relative terms, completely dependent on specific subjects of comparison. Meanwhile, standardized units of measurement are absolute.

I’m taller than my biological parents, but sadly my stepdad is a few inches taller and stronger, and makes me fear getting into fights with him as he is capable of throwing me around the place. If I was raised by my mom and biological dad, I’d be able to crush them both during fits of anger 😅

I was always the tallest girl in my classes up until first year of high school. My dad is pretty tall and my mom is like average. I’ve stopped growing and I’m shorter than both of them lol. They talk about it almost everyday and they’d say that it’s cuz I don’t get enough sleep so I don’t grow as much 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm 5'0. My mom is 5'4 and my dad was 5'5. My dad's sisters were 4'8 and 4'10.

It’s honestly hard not to be taller than your parents. My grandparents generation were so poorly nourished during The Great Depression and WWII, and my mother said being the height of 5’7” was considered exceptionally tall in the early 70’s. Of course, they really didn’t know a lot about vitamins and health food back then either. I’ll tell you another anecdote, some actors tried to fit into used World War II uniforms for a film. Not one of the actors could fit into the uniforms because they weren’t skinny enough, and too tall. You can see viruses evolve under a microscope, which proves evolution on a micro scale. Evolution on a macro scale is harder to prove, but if we’re taller, and more bulky than our parents, or grandparents from WWII, then that’s an example of evolution on a macro scale.

Most people in my country are taller than their parents unless any disorders. I am 5'11''. My dad's 5'10". My mom is 5'7" and my sister is 5'6"

Same height as mom: 5'4.25" and shorter than dad at 5'8.875". My dad lacks 1/8th of an inch being 5'9" and my mom and I are 1/4th of an inch over 5'4".
