When a person never returns things that they borrow, do you think it's usually on purpose or accidental?

I've known a few people like this and I learned to never let them "borrow" anything unless I'm okay with never seeing it again. But I'm wondering if you think these type of people are aware of what they do and it's a conscious thing to be greedy and keep other people's stuff? Or do you think these people are usually just forgetful?

To be clear, I mean when the same person makes a habit of borrowing things multiple times and never gives anything back.

Fears : of losing contact or friendship ie maybe they think that if they have something of
( yours) you will again make contact to get it?
Or they think you'll come over and ask for the borrowed item?
Accidentally; yes of course, ice done that twice in my lifetime and it wasn't a good feeling when I found one item and swore up and cussing down that I'd return it...( I bought him another brand new one , way before found it ! ) and wouldn't you know it that same
" friend" I did it on purpose twice ! ( this is a guy who always wants company but won't leave his throne ( his place ) ) . So I borrowed Pneumatic Framing gun for a job I had ; a week went by and calls & he's like "Are you done

A week goes by same thing only with intensified vulgarities and screaming , like I'm his dog and . .
Well ! I don't know bout a month ; here he comes slinging gravel, tearing up my barnyard; dust flying ( my ladyfriend had just hung out the clothes ). Cusding & Screaming jumps out still cussing, stomping up to my shop door , just as he goes to knock , I pull up my 9MMS & look him in the eye & say " mister... you got a choice to make:
Either you leave here in a body bag or in your. truck ? " " I'm sick in tired of Your dumbshit and how everything you got is gold plated and my tools are all junk
( because they're not his )
" he starts to open his mouth; I catch him. me saying ah ah... YES! You want the body bag or NO ! You dont want the bodybag?" He was back the next day apologizing to my Lady friend, to meand then fixed the barnyard sand washed all the house windows!

If it's once or once in a while that's one thing but if it's just how they always are then yeah they're doing it on purpose because they're shady and can't be trusted

I think this is done on purpose because they borrow things that they want but can't get on their own so they take it from you.

I've forgotten to give a couple books back to people that I no longer see. I always feel guilty when I look at them.

I absolutely love those borrowers or should I say non-returners instead. Can I borrow a shovel, can I borrow a ladder, can I borrow a screwdriver, next thing you know your garage is empty & you see your stuff in the community yard sale. Growing up was classic because one of my friends asked me to borrow a condom. Who the hell borrows condoms? I don’t want that shit back!

That's true. Some people don't understand what the word "borrow" means. It's supposed to be only temporary and if it's something you wouldn't give back to the person, then that's not the right way to put it. Such as borrowing a condom.

As for my all time favorite was when people ask you for money. A good friend of mine kept asking for money. 20 dollars here, a 100 dollars there & years later he asked for 3500 dollars & let me remind you every time he asked for money I told him absolutely not & I stood my ground. When it comes to a friendship, a friendship is a friendship but when it comes to money business is business. Long story short I told my friend to go pound sand & I never heard from that joker again.

Lol... he was trying to treat you like you were a bank. People who get angry because you won't lend them things really aren't worth having around anyway. I once had someone get mad and refuse to speak to me because I wouldn't add them onto my car insurance.

When someone borrows something and never returns it back to us we
got to remember never let anyone borrow anything unless they go into
a contract agreement where they will write where they will agree to bring
back whatever item or money they borrow from us and they also should
be made to give a set time, a date that they agree to return it to us

I think most of the time it's on purpose. You don't forget that something you borrowed is actually required to be returned to the owner. It lingers in your mind, subconsciously that you must return it. The people who do this, tend to procrastinate, thinking they'll return it later and then tend to forget. When all this while they could have returned it as soon as they were done with it.

Doesn't matter, tell them you want your belongings back. If they ask to borrow again, just say no.

If he do first time to me I will warn...
Continue in second time as like that.. he will find very difficulty to borrow at third time from me

It depends on what they borrowed. If it's something they've always wanted themselves I think they purposely keep it.

Some do it on purpose, others just forget that they borrowed it from you and therefore don't return it, but would if reminded.
