Ask him if he likes playing it alone or could i join. Then do my actions according to his answer.
Sometimes it's fun to play thy self. It's less stress than trying to beat someone else, and helps learn more about how to actually play it rather than focus on beating someone.
In competitive games first you must understand how not to psych yourself out.
Nothing really. Playing against yourself is staple and a cliche in chess. I imagine nearly everyone who play chess try it out. No stranger than singing in the shower.
Obviously if the kid has no friends at all I might try getting the mini-me to try some new hobby and meet new people.
OmG why have you even listed those cruel answers? Kid is maybe talented! Let him play! I would leave him alone to play. If he wanted a partner he would invite his parents if he has no siblings. DON'T INTERRUPT YOUNG MIND WHILE IT'S STRENGTHENING ON IT'S OWN 😍🎊.
Also ~ got me to remember this brilliant boy.
Join him of course! This has actually happened to me. Kid was in chess club before the pandemic.
Who the hell is downvoting me playing chess with my son?

Playing yourself allows you to apply classic offensive tactic against their defensive counters. It can increase your knowledge of both and make you a competitor on a pro level.
Since i have no one to play the game with around me i tend to play chess by myself, at least 1 game a day. I just leave the board set up on the counter and make moves in passing then reset it before bed
Welcome to the table and I would just look at the board and if I seem any moves. I would do them and then walk away and as I was walking away I would say call me when it's my turn
I would ask him to teach me how to play. I've always wanted to learn how to play chess! But I don't know anyone who knows how to play.
It is actually very common to pay chess a lone. Trying to out think yourself is very strategic.
I'd wait to see which one of his split personalities won and encourage that one to take over
E: He's studying the game. For instance, replaying classic documented games.
I played with a chessboard all by myself for a long time as a kid. It's how I learned the game.
I would ask him... who's ahead and might win, of course...
If he’s had no human contact for weeks or months, it’s an okay coping mechanism but if he’s not locked up and not currently in solitary confinement, then it’s a bit weird
I actually tried challenging myself with chess and try to win with both black and white. There's nothing wrong with challenging yourself.
Tell him chess is overrated and break out Stratego. Where is the strategy when you know how you opponent has laid out there forces; and you know exactly where everyone is positioned at all times?
Once played chess, stratego, checkers and rummy at the same time against four different people. Won the chess, stratego and rummy. Lost the checkers.
Flip the board and tell him that we're shooting tannerite today instead
Never flip anyone's board, dude. That's highly disrespectful. There are better ways of doing things.
I would join him. I play chess for my chess club so I like chess but I am not so fanatic about it like other my teammates or my dad. My dad said that he was playing chess alone many times when he was in his teens.
That’s pretty normal… People study battle before they command an army.
Chess is an outdated form of battle tactic simulation, play a grand strategy video game instead
Lol. I assume this post is about your brother.
Okay. My bad.
Smack him really hard then lock him in a closet for the night.
Get him a computer chess game to play against.
Join him, although I much prefer Scrabble.
I would be proud
Im gonna play
tell him to tell YOU to go F*** yourself
F stands for fun
enjoy yourself, have fun with yourself (alone) like the dude playing chess alone and enjoying it
