Why is my stepdad trying to take things away from us?

My mom and step dad are getting a divorce. I'm pretty glad because he's an ass. Now he's trying to take her to court and take our dog that he didn't pay for. He wants my mom's truck even though he got another truck himself. He wants $7k for some reason, I'm getting real sick of him and his pettiness. He knows my mom worked hard for her truck and that we love our dog. If he got her, he'll probably abuse her or even let her die, she's a sweet dog. He didn't even feed her when my mom and I were in the hospital with Covid. I just wish he'd just leave.
