Why is it hard for people to be thankful for what they have?

I am eternally thankful to my parents for having given me a good start in life by offering love and care without counting , for having brought me up to be the person I am, for having given me the opportunity to get higher education and to have taught me the principles of dignity, self-esteem and value.

Yes, I may be one of the few that is thankful for all that and that does not wish I had more.

With that in mind, I don't think I will ever be able to repay the care, dedication and devotion in full because I would not have enough with one lifetime to fulfill that task.

Most times people don't realise what they have until they lose it. Besides when you have something, something better comes out like clothes. Whe you think you have the latest fashion, other comes out making you have it.

Because the entire system is set up to focus on growth , its like a company if its not growing its stagnant , or even going backwards , so to just be thankful for what you have , it indirectly means you have thrown in the towel , or simply " given up " , people are conditioned to never be satisfied.

Because we're genetically programmed to want (and seek) more- and much of society is built around that, reinforcing it.

Why? I assume everyone has their own reasons. But mostly, I think, it's greed or a need to prove to others and themselves that they can...

I live in the present, enjoy what I have, and plan my goals.
