Of course, my mother rarely did so I just stole from her which is what a kid will do if you don't so... and if they can't steal from you they'll go to steal from others which naturally will lead to them getting into trouble and be friends with a wrong crowd

The best way to do is give them amount every week, then extra if they do chores, and if they ask for something and it sounds reasonable give them it.

I give my kid pocket money for completing tasks around the house that aren't normally his responsibility. Picking up his room: no cash... Shoveling the deck: cash. He doesn't spend much of it, preferring to save it up for toys or games he wants, but he does occasionally buy candy with it.

Depends on how old. I think it should start around 8 years old because that's usually when kids start doing real chores besides cleaning up after their toys.
