As a 28-year-old new mom, do I need to stop dressing cute and girly?

Im 28 and due to be a mother in July. I look a lot younger for my age as I have a baby face and im very short at 5ft.

Whenever I go aboard with my husband im mistaken for a child, I can even fit in kids clothes.

I really like cute girly things and love wearing hello kitty and other little cute graphic t shirts with cute little characters on. I know im not a child I have a house, a husband, car, full time job etc but I just like dressing cute, pink and girly.

Sometimes I find it frustrating being mistaken for a child but my family, husband and others have said to me "what do you expect when you dress the way you do"

I feel it won't be long before me and my child will be wearing similar clothes and if I may embarrass my child if I carry on dressing this way.

Im just abit of a big kid but that doesn't mean im not capable of being a responsible adult/parent.

I think i enjoy the nostalgic things in life like when I was a child and didn't have real world issues to face. I like spending my money on lego, Squishmallows and little figures. Im just abit of a nerd I guess.

My husband does sometimes say it be nice to see me in something that wasn't pink for a change and to dress abit more grown up but I hate "grown up clothes" there so boring and dull and everything lacks colour.

I dont like looking sexy either and feel uncomfortable im my body sometimes sometimes and thats why i dress the way I do too slightly

Well what exactly are you wearing that's really girly cause I have a online clothing brand and I have a lot of pink clothing on there but it doesn't necessarily look too girly for adult women, you must be wearing like some toddler clothing or something because you can get stuff in pink and not necessarily be childish, as a woman there should be nothing wrong with being girly tho

No Miss Piggy, you don’t have to SAY anything, the issue is within the context itself. You say that you’re 5ft, and claim to have such a baby face that you’re often mistaken for an actual child. Fine, you can’t help that. The issue comes in when you’re saying things like:

“I love wearing Helly Kitty and other cute LITTLE graphic tshirts with cute LITTLE characters on. I feel it won't be long before me and MY CHILD will be wearing SIMILAR clothes and if I may embarrass my child if I carry on dressing this way. I’m just A BIT OF A BIG KID”.

You KNOW you dress like a child, you know when you go out you are perceived as a child, you allege that this is frustrating and yet you keep doing it. Being girly and loving pink is something you can absolutely still do while still presenting as an adult.

Yes you are correct, lots of adults wear hello kitty, enjoy Lego’s and Pokemon, that is not the problem here. The problem is how you pair those enjoyments with this already infantilized perception of yourself. You’re talking about wearing the exact same shit that your kid would, potentially embarrassing them, and continuing in dressing how you do. You are fully aware that for the outside viewer, you are likely mistaken as a child because you enjoy dressing as one and look like one due to your height and features. That is you FULLY leaning into infantilization
