+1 yFemales do not wear bikinis to impress men.
They are comfortable, super easy to mix and match, often cheaper than a one piece, allow for better tan lines (no one wants a pale belly with the rest of your body tan), easier to remove to go to the washroom, and actually sometimes more flattering than one pieces (for HER to feel confident, not for her to attract men).
I wear bikinis because I'm tall, when a one piece fits in width, it is too short in length (as well as the other reasons).00 Reply

+1 yI wear a one piece because I go swimming and with big boobs I would never trust a bikini to keep them in properly. I have a really cool 1950's style halterneck one which is incredibly flattering so I don't have to be self conscious at all. I don't quite understand why women are so funny about underwear being seen when they parade around in beach underwear in the summer... puzzles me greatly.

Noooo... but plenty of girls my size wear bikinis and look fine.
Asker+1 yInteresting... Hoit-ho!

I don't know what that means.

+1 yNot everything girls do is to attract attention from men. I don't wear bikini's for that reason nor any of my friends.
We do it to get a tan or because it's warm weather. It's also comfortable.
Besides, men can walk around without shirts? But what about us? -_-47 Reply
Asker+1 yThat would be worse than a bikini! Hoit-ho-hoit-ho!
- +1 y
Exactly... but yet men can do it and women can't simply cause we have boobies that were given to us to provide milk for our young... but somewhere it became a sexualized thing.
Asker+1 yNot in some places...:P Thank you for giving me a sociologically intelligent answer! Hoit-ho!

My greatest pleasure Hoit-ho!

Thanks for BA
and yes... it's indecent exposure.. aware of that but at same time very strange as there shouldn't have to be a sexual connotation to boobs. That's the only reason it's indecent.
+1 yI agree that not everything girls do is to attract attention from men. But girls wearing bikinis is one of the things that women do to attract attention from men. Wearing bikinis kind of make them feel a bit empowering that they are showing off their skin. They see a lot of models wearing bikinis in magazines, TV, movies and girls want to do the same to feel more resemblance to models. Of course, there are circumstances where girls wear bikinis for tanning purposes.

Asker+1 yI wish they attracted me. I really do. But the WAY they act when they wear them makes it extremely turn-offish for me.
- +1 y
I thought I was the only one thinking that. Yes, girls sure look good in their little bikinis. Pun intended. However, it's their attitudes that turn me off. If girls are really only wearing bikinis because of the right circumstance, then that's great. It's obviously more than that. Girls these days wear bikinis to make themselves more empowering. What's the worst is that, they take all those little selfies and model poses in their bikinis and pose them on Facebook/Instagram RIGHT AWAY.
Let's say if they have to choose to between doing something urgent and posting a picture of themselves in bikini on social media. Guess which one they would choose? Posting their little picture! It's not the fact girls in bikini turn me off. It's their attitude and behaviors with bikinis that do.
Asker+1 yIt's both for me. Besides the fact that it gives off an immature vibe. Most adults will wear both; most teenagers will only wear bikinis.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIt's the same reason why women traded dresses and long skirts for short-shorts, short skirts, and skin-tight jeans. Women's liberation and the sexual revolution and all that. People used to swim naked. By the 1800s in particular, it was the norm to cover up on the beach (the Victorian era).
The only reason that nakedness is considered sexual is because people started covering up. By making the naked body shameful, it becomes a taboo which makes it titillating.21 Reply

+1 yUmmmm... I think women wear bikinis because they want to get an even tan.
What happens if she wears a one piece and then in the evening she goes out in jeans and a bit shorter shirt - everything is tan but her tummy... Looks stupid.14 Reply
Asker+1 yHoit-ho! The general consensus is beginning to make sense! But what about cloudy days?
- +1 y
I don't know a lot of people that like to go to the sea when it's cloudy outside.
Btw, even if it IS cloudy, people still tan.
Asker+1 yInteresting... Hoit-ho!
I know, I'm not a fan either but it's just standard these days. One pieces look odd, so you don't wear them. On the upside bikinis like this are becoming more in style again

Asker+1 yHow totally retro! Hoit-ho!
- +1 y
Yea Taylor Swift is a very vintage and retro girl now. She gives it a fresh twist, even for a bikini :) I loveeee taylor swift
Asker+1 yI liked her better in her Teens Choice Awards wetsuit.
i honestly think its a trend thing like how back then full body suits were the bomb diggity lol like now high waisted swimming bottoms are coming back in style for females. I personally like bikinis but im never confident enough to strut in them but it was the only thing i could wear because the majority of stores only sold bikinis and the full body suits were hideous. but now that there are swimwear with more coverage im buying those stuff. so in my opinion its just the hype

+1 yI just feel good in a bikini. I feel free and it's comfortable on me. I feel restricted in one-pieces and I don't like how they feel. I don't wear bikinis to get attention, I just feel good in them. The human body shouldn't be so sexualized. It's beautiful.

+1 yWtf? I don't wear a bikini for men. Its what id convenient for me. One pieces are more complicated, and feel constricting, and look ugly. Most do anyway. Plus I'm fine with people seeing my figure. We live in 2014... I don't need to cover up to swim.

Asker+1 yAha! A conformist has arrived! Hoit-ho-hoit-ho!
Asker+1 yAnd, of course, the conformist is a high-schooler! Oh, my generation has a lot to learn...
- +1 y
You know that being a nonconformist is actually regarded as the "cool" thing to do, making it mainstream and ironically, conforming?
I don't care if I'm conforming by wearing what makes ME happy. Why is it wrong to wear a bikini?
Asker+1 yActually, in my school, I'm the only one who isn't a nonconformist. I'll grant that comment as being a totally new one that I've never heard of before. What I meant by saying that you were a conformist was that you called them "ugly," which is popular opinion, and neglected the fact that they DO show off your figure. Your last sentence was a dagger, though; just because the majority do it in 2014 does not mean that it is all right to follow.
- +1 y
You can have a popular opinion. It doesn't make you a follower. I don't care if everyone says one pieces are cute, I don't like them. Everyone thinks overalls are coming back, and I still think they're ugly. Just because I hold an opinion that other people hold as well, doesn't make me a silly conformist. You'd be silly for purposely changing your opinion to stand out.
My comment about 2014 was because I don't understand how someone can think that a woman baring her stomach and back while swimming is so bad. That sounds like something someone from 1904 would think. Give me a reason why its bad?
Asker+1 yHoit-ho! Got me there. I forgot that I was arguing about clothing which is a completely subjective matter. After receiving another commentator's history lesson, I understand your position regarding swimsuits. You win this round, as far as defending bikinis goes. Hoit-ho!
- +1 y
Thanks. Where are you from? Is hoit-ho something your country says?
- +1 y
@AMilano ehh it depends on how it looks. If I were very fat I'd cover up more but if I just thought I looked weird I'd probably still wear a bikini because its so convenient/comfortable
Asker+1 y@still_waiting I'm from America. "Hoit-ho" is just me laughing. Hoit-ho! Me Engrish no gud?
- +1 y
@AMilano have you ever put on a women's one piece? Not easy especially if its still wet. Have you ever tried to pee in one? Lol. And a tight wet suit clinging to you isn't as comfy as just a top and a bottom
Asker+1 yAha! Your practicality is pristine! But a certain phrasing in your comment has posed another question: Why not wetsuit?
- +1 y
Asker- wet suits are worse!
@AMilano even if they're both bathing suits doesn't make them just as easy. With two pieces you put on the bottoms then the top, super easy. Putting on a one piece when its dry isn't too difficult but when its wet it is. I really don't know how to explain to you how its more difficult? I guess you could try it? ?
Asker+1 yThat would be weird for him to try it. But it seems as though you are speaking from a lot of experience!
- +1 y
@AMilano yes, you're right. All BS, its just a clever ruse to avoid one pieces and wear bikinis. Because women have to justify everything they decide to wear.
Asker+1 yI understand where she's coming from. It's like truing to take off a wet, stretchy shirt that stokes to your skin. But, then again, why does it matter how hard it is to remove?
- +1 y
Why does it matter? What do you mean? Why can't we wear things that are convenient? Actually why do we have to justify what we wear? Why don't men wear one pieces then? I'm tired of seeing immodest man nipples. Tired of it I say! Put on a shirt! Or a one piece leotard, or a wet suit. WHY NOT?
Asker+1 yThe girls in my class wear bikinis under a t-shirt or rash guard. Aren't those more annoying to remove?
- +1 y
@AMilano read my comment below
Asker+1 yBut you said wetsuits were worse. Why would I wear something like that? Would the benefits outweigh the cost?
- +1 y
Asker yeah they are. Honestly I wear what I want and I don't have to justify it. Why don't you swim in a wetsuit.
- +1 y
EXACTLY! You're saying women should wear one pieces even if they're uncomfortable but yet men don't have to because they're not comfortable? ?
- +1 y
@AMilano ok bad example. If you think women should wear stuff to suit your fancy regardless of comfort then you should wear one pieces!
Asker+1 yYou forget surfing. As well as the Muslim kind, but we aren't even going to bring that up because of their little respect for women.
- +1 y
@AMilano Bikinis cover the breasts? So what's the problem you have with bikinis?
Asker+1 yNo. Men don't wear one pieces because we have junk. It's unbecoming.
- +1 y
Women don't wear one pieces because there's no need to cover the stomach and back.
Asker+1 yWhat about scoop back? You cover the stomach to keep bugs from laying eggs in your bellybutton. Unless you have an outie, of course.
- +1 y
@AMilano okk well we don't NEED to cover the stomach.
Asker+1 yThe bugs! Don't forget the bugs and their eggs! Hoit-ho!
Asker+1 yFat people wouldn't. They're the one exception to my question, because nobody wants to see belly layers.
- +1 y
@AMilano I know you CAN cover your stomach with one but WHY do you think we have to? Its a question and you have yet to answer it
Asker+1 yIt's like, with shirts, how it's more polite to wear a full one than a tummy-cut.
- +1 y
Asker+1 yI hate her music.
- +1 y
@AMilano good job at avoiding the question
Asker+1 yI hate that song.
- +1 y
@AMilano I most definitely didn't say that
Asker+1 yAnd thus, an unlikely romantic interest was born between AMilano and still_waiting (who is now no longer waiting).
- +1 y
Asker, for one, he's 25 and I'm 17.
Secondly... he isn't my type. I don't like guys who act high and mighty about what girls wear
Asker+1 yI see! I didn't read that! Hoit-ho! I already conceded victory to you, so does that mean that I'm still a target? A joke I make, of course!
- +1 y
Its okay, asker
Asker+1 yNo, I meant that I'm the same age as you and am not to stubborn to admit that I'm wrong, before asking if you considered me as a potential romantic interest, after which I denounced as a joke.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 y1. Easier when going to toilet
2. More comfortable
3. Tanning
4. They can look just as classy and cute
5. Bikinis can look personal
And there are still a lot of one pieces
Also bikinis aren't underwear and aren't one pieces kinda to show off to guys too?10 Reply
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yPlenty of girls wear bikinis to impress men. That's not the sole reason, obviously - we wear them to get a good tan, because it's more comfortable, and one-pieces just look hideous on some people. I'm not really sure why guys are complaining to be honest, lol.
00 ReplyI personally hate the feel of swimming costumes, as the skin-tightness of them just makes me feel fat (I don't feel uncomfortable baring my tummy though for some reason), and it's easier to get a tan. xx

Asker+1 yWhat the heck is a swimming costume?
Asker+1 yOh, I see! I learned a foreign term! Hoit-ho!
I have never worn a bikini to attract a man. I wear them because I'm more comfortable in them than a one piece. Plus you get a better tan.

Asker+1 yHoit-ho! Quite enlightening!
Asker+1 yHoit-Ho! AMilano, do you comment on everything?
Bikinis are the only thing available. And one pieces are seen as childish imo. That or one pieces are for old ladies or bigger girls
What about guys? Aren't you embarrassed being in the equivilant of boxers?10 Reply

Asker+1 yI just want to know why it has suddenly become so overwhelmingly popular in the 21st century.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI'm a girl and I personally hate wearing those flimsy peices of fabric. But then again, I'm generally quite quiet and I dislike showing too much skin. I love my swim suit, and omg I loved doing the bubbles thing with my suit when I was younger (not that I still do at all, I promise *cough, cough* aha).

Asker+1 yHoit-ho! Exactly! You can be childish with it, because one pieces have whatever personality you give them!
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yWhy do most guys only wear swim trunks?
Oh, right, because it's more comfortable.33 Reply
Asker+1 yBut, besides speedos (which are just about the equivalent of a girl in a bikini), what else do we have to wear?
Opinion Owner+1 yCould keep a shirt on to cover your upper body.
Asker+1 yHmmmm... but that's a question of something extra being worn, not an entire change in wardrobe.
Personally I find the monokini the best, most attractive option
