I am not fond of the Tomboy type, although they are outdoorsy like myself, I find them to convey their feelings less. You know, I am more like a guy, rather sit and drink some beers than talk about my feelings. It is kind of like pulling teeth to know where you stand with them.

An elegant classy girl will still head outdoors with you, and at least she will tell you how she feels and be more forthcoming.

I like casual and sporty, but it only looks hot if you have the correct body for it. Otherwise stay with elegant/girly/classy. You will more easily find something that fits your body looks and is still hot.

What would be your definition of "feminine"?

It doesn't deprive the meaning of these terms since they're such powerful forces in terms of how people tend to be attracted. You could break it down to general physiological differences like the larger breasts, tilted pelvis, arched spine, wider hips, narrower waist, elongated abdomen, the posture that accompanies these features. Things like heels tend to pronounce these differences and exaggerate them more, and somehow that seems to help attract attention (though perhaps some of it is just an image of femininity that we've subscribed towards).

Beyond that is the obvious: she's dressed in a way most men would never dress. This kind of attire might come from some kind of image of the female sex we've come to worship, but it attracts many men nevertheless.

Bulldyke? LOL, the question is not about lesbians, it's about tomboyish girls, they are NOT "all lesbians" (actually, most of them are not lesbians). On the other hand, some lesbians are "girly girls" ;)

@ak666 Tomboyish girls are not 100% androgynous, they don't wear male clothes like suits & ties... as for the physical traits, there are girls of various body shapes. Most tomboys are inverted triangle shape (or the V shape) - Broad shoulders, narrow hips, slender waist, usually shapely legs.

That's true -- most of the tomboys I've been lucky enough to date were actually "girly" (agreed it's largely a social construct) in many ways. The "girly" parts are what attracted me to them, but the tomboy parts are what made it so we had so much in common and could enjoy so many things together. I'd love to see more tomboys in society.

In my case the idea of femininity and masculinity came not just from social constructs but also visual arts. I studied figure drawing and anatomy and kind of fell in love with some of the more universal physiology differences in between men and women (including their skeletal structure).

I realize that, but I simply mean they might still wear cosmetics, might still have lengthy hair, etc.

The ones I dated loved playing sports and video games, for example, and one had a huge thing for violent gangster and horror movies -- lots of interests typically associated with male interests by society.

I'm still attracted to women by "feminine" or "girly" kind of features. That's probably largely a combo of nature and nurture, and lopsided towards nurture and sociological factors. But that's what attracts me nevertheless.

I feel like sociologists have a point about social constructs but tend to give nurture just a tad too much credit and nature too little.

For example, I don't think a man in high heels looks right and that's probably partly nature, but also because men in general have a pelvis that tilts considerably less inward than female. It's something we can easily identify just by looking at the differences between a male and female skeleton. A man wearing heels tend to accentuate features that would generally be more pronounced in females, so he's "feminizing" his appearance by wearing heels in ways that go beyond what we simply associate in terms of gender -- it would really be pushing his posture towards one the opposite end of the sex spectrum.

@ak666 Of course, most tomboys I know have lengthy hair, being a tomboy doesn't mean you have to cut your hair short :)
Even men wear cosmetics, being a tomboy doesn't mean you have to smell bad ;)
However, when it comes to long hair, some long-haired men look very rough (e. g Conan, Vikings, Native American Indians etc), so the long hair doesn't necessarily mean "feminine".
As for the high heels, tomboys usually despise them, most tomboyish girls wear sneakers. On the other hand, men started wearing high heels way before women did (medieval nobleman, even rulers, kings and emperors):

PS - the same goes for stockings, hundreds of years ago, they were considered as a "macho thing". :P

Yeah, I'd agree that long hair definitely has very little to do with natural physiology. I'm using "feminine" as a pure social construct in this case, but nevertheless often an influential force in how we've grown to become attracted to each other in a lot of cultures.

To me the idea of "masculine" and "feminine" are sometimes seemingly quite arbitrary, completely sociology at play. But I still think the terms are kind of meaningful if only because they're often the forces that compel sexual attraction, even if it's nurture doing the work instead of nature.

... and same for stockings, wigs, male perfume, jewelry, etc. I still find the terminology useful in the sense that these things were considered "masculine" during those periods, and hence were a way to attract the opposite sex. Beauty itself might largely be a social construct, but it's hard to talk about anything if the fact that nurture has such a strong part in shaping our ideas about it makes the term no longer applicable.

It is interesting to me how much exactly sociology has to do with ideas of "masculine", "feminine", "beauty", etc. Sociology tends to place emphasis on the idea that it's rather completely arbitrary. I come more from scientific fields and studies and a common approach there wants to view these topics more in terms of closed systems, where societies reflect nature, albeit branching out in a myriad of different patterns, and sometimes based on factors so complex that they start to seem completely arbitrary.

I think the whole short-shorts are quite feminine though, for example, if you think about something that's slight masculine, then for me, I don't typically think about this:

Well, lost of tomboys are sporty and/or casual. Most of them wear shorts rather than skirt, especially during the summer. Feminine and Masculine are just social construct, being a tomboy is not just a dressing style, it's about the attitude... tomboyish are assertive girls who enjoys rough, activities traditionally associated with boys. Basically, they don't like "girly" stuff like makeup, skirts, high heels etc.

All undeniably true. For me, I would date pretty much any of the girls that you or I have posted (don't think there were any exceptions) because they are all undeniably gorgeous. I have a slight bias / preference to what I consider "feminine style" / "class" but the looks and personality always take precedence over the clothes someone is wearing because at the end of the day, they're just clothes.
