Why does my foundation always look cakey?

No matter what fondation high or low end why is my foundation cakey and patchy? It looks like this

some of the time it is not even your makeup it is your skincare! if your foundation doesn’t apply well and you do not have a nice and prepped base, it looks super cakey. i had this problem for so long until i found a face wash, moisturizer, primer etc that really worked for my skin and it has made all the difference

Perhaps it's because your skin is very dry.
apply good amount of moisturizer beforehand

What foundation are you using? And are you using some type of primer?
