They used to do those to cows and pigs so they could be led around by the nose. It was a bad look for the cows and pigs and isn't any better on people.

As with many piercings it depends a lot on size, style and fitment. I don't see it as that big of a deal because the pierced skin is relatively hidden should you decide to take it out.
