Question: "What does the Bible say about tattoos / body piercings?"
Answer: The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23–25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against tattoos should raise some questions. The New Testament does not say anything about whether or not a believer should get a tattoo.
We do have this command in 1 Peter 3:3–4: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” Granted, this passage is directed at Christian women, but there is a principle here that may be apropos: namely, a person’s external appearance should not be the focus of our attention. Much effort goes into “elaborate hairstyles” and “fine clothes” and jewelry, but that’s not where a woman’s true beauty lies. In the same way, tattoos and body piercings are “outward adornment,” and we should be careful to give more effort to the development of the “inner self,” regardless of our gender.
In relation to tattoos and body piercings, a good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use that particular activity for His own good purposes. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). The New Testament does not specifically command against tattoos or body piercings, but it also does not give us any reason to believe God would have us get tattoos or body piercings.
An important scriptural principle on issues the Bible does not specifically address is if there is room for doubt whether it pleases God, then it is best not to engage in that activity. Romans 14:23 reminds us that anything that does not come from faith is sin. We need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. Although 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 does not directly apply to tattoos or body piercings, it does give us a principle: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own
; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. If our bodies belong to God, we should make sure we have His clear “permission” before we “mark them up” with tattoos or body piercings.
"What does it mean that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?"
Answer: Instructing the Christians in Corinth to flee from sexual immorality, the apostle Paul exhorted, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Indeed, God the Father created our bodies, God the Son redeemed them, and God the Holy Spirit indwells them. This makes our body the very temple of the Holy Spirit of God.
Those who do not belong to Christ do not have the Spirit of Christ residing in them (Romans 8:9). Thus, their bodies are not a temple of the Holy Spirit. Clearly, then, the greatest thing we can do for our bodies is to make them into a temple for God’s Spirit. And we do this by placing our trust and faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. The moment we do this, the indwelling of God’s Spirit takes place (1 Corinthians 12:13). Our salvation is then sealed and guaranteed (Ephesians 1:13-14). The Holy Spirit will then be with us forever (John 14:16), given by God as His pledge of the believer’s future inheritance in glory (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).
As the Holy Spirit resides in us, therefore, we are to honor God with our bodies as they “are not [our] own,” as Paul said. We have indeed been bought with a price.
And it was not gold or silver or other perishable things by which we were redeemed; it was with the precious, unblemished blood of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19). Ordained by God before the foundation of the world (Acts 2:23), Christ’s blood purchased us out of the slavery of sin and set us free forever. And as Christian’s bodies are God’s temple, we are to use them to glorify God.
If God meant simply to convey the idea that the Spirit lives within the believer, He could well have used words such as “home,” “house,” or “residence.” But by choosing the word “temple” to describe the Spirit’s dwelling, He conveys the idea that our bodies are the shrine, or the sacred place, in which the Spirit not only lives, but is worshiped, revered, and honored. Therefore, how we behave, think and speak, and what we let into the temple through our eyes and ears becomes critically important as well, for every thought, word and deed is in His view. Even though He will never leave us,
it is entirely possible to grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4: 30). Instructing the Ephesians to not grieve the Spirit, Paul told them to “get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:31-32). When we live by the Spirit, we will no longer gratify the desires of the sinful nature (Galatians 5:16).
If you are considering getting one you can get these awesome fake ones on Amazon, gets you a realistic self image of what you will look like.
I personally LOVE them. As you can probably see in my picture, my nose is pierced :D I don't see how there can be so much hate on a little gem or ring.
First hand no one's ever been negative to me about it and I've never been turned down from a job etc.
I felt I had a big nose and now I love my nose all thanks to the little ring :)
Not a fan, but that's just because I'm kinda conservative when it comes to piercings. I only really like ears that are pierced, nothing else. But I don't think less of people who do have piercings, because that's their choice. I think people look better without them, but also not exactly horrible with them. I'm kinda neutral as long as someone doesn't have like 5 different piercings all over their face.
Ouch!
I just had mine reprierced last year because I missed having it. I like them obviously, although I have just gone for a small stud this time. I used to wear a small ring.
I also think they look hot as fuck on guys... Some guys obviously... Not all.
I don't like them. We'd probably break up because I doubt I'd be the same person around her, show the same level of attraction, want to look at her. I'd probably grow distant and not want to look at her. Deep down I'd probably think why am I with someone who did a "bait and switch" on me... catch me with goods "A" just to switch to goods "B" after she gets me, I'd be troubled that she's one of these girls into this stupid "poke holes in your body", follow the "hip" crowd, monkey see, monkey do, crap.
Either I'd get sick of being with her or she'd get sick of the change in me.
I think at this point, people are better off, paying attention to improving their behavior and attitude because every style and trend has been exhausted, not unless you pierce your hamstring or foot, not sure if anything speaks to anyone’s individuality really anymore.
However, if you really ask yourself, what makes someone special and attractive, it’s how they make other people feel in their presence, now what they can do to their look, to be more noticeable right?
I never understood people who have this view... You know that people don't get piercings to look special or stand out don't you? That isn't the usual reason so it doesn't matter that it isn't original or unique.
I don’t wear jeans and denim because it makes me feel original and I think that is missing the point, you asked what I thought about the attractiveness of nose rings... or perhaps someone else did... what I am saying is it will neither make you more or less attractive, because it’s common, and at this point, it’s way more important to distinguish yourself by your energy and presence, as that is more effective

I don’t like them in general really some are okay, I prefer a small stud to a ring
I'd prefer not but the don't bother me as much as other areas. It's hard to say if they add or take away from attractiveness... I would say they might add to attactiveness if they were small and in one nostril. I find piercing that go through both nostrils to be tacky
I am not a big fan of piercings and tattoos. I just don't find it that appealing to change my body that much. I have also given up dying my hair. I think I just like my body as natural as possible. It's preference though, and I don't really care if anyone else does it. That's their body.
Not generally in favour of piercings particularly not in the face
Along with tattoos it kinda screams I want to be non conformist and express my individuality the same way everyone else does
Of course not all things are equal some piercings look worse than others the one on the picture isn't terrible at least
That kind of nose piercing in the picture is okay but I think nose studs are cuter and look more attractive. Overall I would prefer a girl that doesn't have any nose piercings or a girl with a nose stud.
Extreme nose piercings and septum piercings are a huge turnoff.
Still debating on getting one cause I’m fraid it will hurt bad or worse than my helix. My tongue didn’t even hurt as bad as my cartilage being done 😭 but depends on your nose if you can pull it off
But only the nose part not the one that makes you look like you have a hog ring those look ridiculous lol
Personally I would never, ever consider having one, I think and feel that they look absolutely dreadful.
I say no to piercings generally, and any piercings in sensitive areas, like the mouth, nose, or genitals. No. Just no. I don't like pricings and I don't think they're attractive.
I have my nose pierced. I think it’s cute on me. It’s cute on some people, but it doesn’t look good on everyone.
I guess it depends on the person, The girl in the picture is beautiful and it doesn't detract from her beauty. I definitely wouldn't have one. It's girly and I would get punched in the nose sooner or later, anyways.
They are hot! I mean, if ever there was an ornaments to rule all ornaments, it is the nose ring.
It adds just the right amount of intrigue to the face and absolutely insane amounts of sensuality.
It's a winner.
The right ones are cute but I also think that depends on the girl because not all of them can pull these off and still look good sometimes they just look worse. I'm not saying it makes them look ugly, they just look like they shouldn't have it
Depends on what you get a stud not bad, or s loop but no on bridge of a nose look like a bull. I think it looks kinda trashy.
Nose piercings are one of the traditional piercings. Nothing wrong with them but a lot depends what you wear in them. They only look good with something subtle and also the nose has to be pretty or cute.
I have one. Not for fashion purpose but it is part of my culture. My boyfriend appreciates it 😊
Yeah but not the septum piercing, that depends on your face
What is the point of it? Its useless in my opinion.
You could say that aboit most clothes. A boiler suit would do the job, so why choose different clothes?
No it wouldn't. Different occasions require different attire
I'm not that fond of them...
But if it's on a girl that I really like then I probably wouldn't care...
I love it. I have two on one side! With other people I think you have to have the right face for it.
The picture is fine. Those septums piercings though.. reminds me of a cow. Mooooooo
I'm not generally a fan, but some people can rock it.
Cute, it's one of these things ithink that just 1is fine attractive even.
I think they're awesome. I just got one a month ago
I love them! But mine snag and pull out and are a bitch to get back in.. cuz they are cork screw!
I think they’re cute, but my work forbids any kind of facial piercings.
Sexy... but boogies get stuck in there and need good higiene... and if u have sinusitis is a problem
Yeah i like them. When they are modest and small i like it better.
Where I am from, almost all girls have it. Its cultural so I never really think much about it lol
Nose piercings are hideous and an instant deal breaker.
They're fun up to a certain age. They dont really serve a particular role either. So they are meh to me.
I love septum piercing on men
All those guys are lames and dunno what they're talking about. A tiny stud or small hoop like that is perfect and enhances facial features. Anything more is not attractive
i like em. I have my septum and both nostrils pierced
They can be cool but it depends on how you wear them and who’s wearing them
I feel like traditional nose piercings are out and septums piercings are kind of replacing it these days. Both are cute for their generations!
I like the piercings that people often depict minotaurs with. The one that goes through the middle of the two nostrils.
The only piercings I'm okay with are ear piercings; anywhere else I find unattractive. xc
Some people they are cute and some just don't go I don't like the one that looks like a bull ring honestly
Looks good on the right nose. I much prefer dainty studs than the ring tho.
It's played out already if u don't have one. For those that do if you're not the right attitude it also doesn't fit. Kinda gotta be an independent free thinker for it
They look cool... But not those gothic inspired ones !!
Looks good only on a few women especially those with sharp noses like Indian women.
They can look attractive as long as they are not to big and crazy
It's cute on a girl... If kept clean... And proportional to the girls face.
Depending on how you look depends on what fits you better. A hoop, or a stud honestly.
Dont actually like them that much. But I dont dislike them
I dislike them. but if you the girl in the pic u look good
I think it's pretty. Makes the girl look a bit badass.
Not a big fan, but they can you cute on some girls it just depends
Nose rings are for pigs, not humans. Piercings do not enhance human attractiveness.
Sometimes i get embarrassed for them cuase i think they have a booger in their nose
It's fine for a 15 year old trying to rebel against her parents
There is a girl in class who have them and she looks kinda hot with it
awful on everyone always. the septum can be pulled off on some
I think some are sexy. Some look good with them. Some aren’t cut out for it.
I like them only when they are small and discreet. They can look cute and compliment other features on the face
Not a fan. Always draws my attention making me think they have something on their nose - in a bad way.
Depending on what kind of piercing they have in their nose some can be pretty attractive and some just dont look right
If they are like this one, and simple they are nice.
I love these. They're really attractive and good looking on men and women.
