Why are bad teeth such big turn off?

I saw someone here asking people what is their biggest turn off and many said it was bad teeth or missing teeth. Do you all realise that teeth can be fixed and the person may not afford treatment right when the problem arises or they may be under treatment when you meet them. It sounds very shallow to me to instantly judge someone for it. Some people do brush their teeth twice a day and problems can still arise.

Teeth can be fixed but it’s not as easily and readily available for individuals as you may think. Fake teeth cost individuals anywhere from 2-3k per tooth 🦷 up to 20-100k to get a whole new set of perfect white teeth. Depends on where you live as well as the technology readily available. It’s not as cheap as most people would think. My mom got fake teeth and it costs a lot more money to put in fake teeth that they have to chisel down in order to have “permanently “. If you want just teeth to sit on top of existing teeth almost like a blanket it is a bit cheaper but not by much. Dental implants are almost as much as getting a new pair of boobs. Also the recovery time for this implant is anywhere from 3-6 months sometimes longer depending on the individual. So at the end of the day , yes the procedure is readily available but it’s not as cheap as you’d think it is.
People care so much about teeth because believe it or not thats the first thing you will see as soon as they open their mouth to smile , eat , drink , laugh , etc. It’s not so much of a big deal to me because I’ve had bad teeth before and I know it’s expensive and takes a long time to fix & heal. My fiance doesent have perfect teeth and I still love him as he is. How much are you willing to handle for the one that you love?

That was my point, they aren't cheap, so judging someone for not being able to fix them right away sounds kinda shallow. Shit can happen to anyone really. Now, if the person just didn't care about their teeth, not even to fix them that is different. It's just as bad as being obese and not caring to lose weight.

Dental hygiene is huge for me, so if your teeth are falling out well thats a good indication that your not taking care of your mouth, and I’m not talking about getting teeth knocked out. If you don’t brush regularly and I can tell your not taking the time to do it, the last thing I want to do is put my mouth on yours!

The point was, how can you tell? If i get a cavity at 15 and at 30 the filling falls and i can't afford it for a few weeks for example, according to ylu it means i don't take care of myself now, when in fact it is a mistake i did in my teens

Well call me shallow but if your teeth are yellow and fuzzy looking then I’m going to get the impression you don’t take care of your mouth. And side note, you can’t tell if someone has a cavity really, unless they’re teeth are rotting, which in that case is another sign your not taking care of your teeth!

You can tell they have a cavity because there is a hole in their teeth... especially if it is the front teeth, it is obvious. Also, did you understand i was talking about your filling falling off? Of course you can tell it happens, your tooth is not whole.

Personally, I have misaligned teeth because of the simple fact that my braces kept breaking constantly. I had them for like a year and very little changed about how my teeth are. So I have some gaps.

Anyway, it depends on what is defined as 'bad teeth'. If they are really yellow or black, it's obviously a sign that they are not being taken care properly of. However, a slightly coloured is very natural. That's like the only argument for it seeming not healthy.

Whether there's a gap between teeth has nothing to do with health in most cases, and thus is purely for aesthetics.

I don't see why would it be considered more shallow than dismissing: :baldness , short height, weight, facial structure , etc.. If you accept that some physical traits are acceptable turn offs them they all are.

no, it is moreshallow, because I said THEY MAY JUST NOT AFFORD IT WHEN YOU MEET THEM, teeth are easier to fix than an ugly face and almost everyone needs to have some work done at some point in their lives. I mean, if I met someone and they had bad teeth and I found out that is because they just don't care about cleaning and fixing them yeah, that would be a dealbreaker because their teeth would just get worse. But if they are saving money for fixing them it would be a bit shallow of me to reject them for it.

When you just met them they are not going to know your plans and that factor may already have disqualified from getting a number. If they do get to know ones reasons then one would be put into basic loser schmuck that can't afford dental care category. Which transforms a physical factor into a financial one which few people would consider shallow.

Because all physical preferences are essentially shallow, yet people are attracted to what they’re attracted to and that’s ok. If someone doesn’t find a person aesthetically pleasing why should they have to pretend to just because? We can’t be attracted to everyone and we shouldn’t feel pressured to just because someone who doesn’t meet ones “criteria” feels hurt.
I’m a person who likes good teeth, I had braces at 27-29 to correct minor cosmetic issues because it’s just something I personally feel strongly about and find attractive in others. However, many men won’t like wide noses, or brunettes, or tattoos or super short women so automatically I’m out of their radar and there is nothing wrong with that

I'm missing teeth, I can't afford to fix them as I was quoted 14,000 for the treatment I would need so I'm stuck with bad teeth. If I had 14,000 teeth still wouldn't be top of the list because of getting a deposit on a house or boat to live on

I don't mind slightly misaligned teeth. I had one twisted tooth and it used to bother me a lot even tho no one else around me cared about it.. but I still got braces and got it fixed. Ever since I got braces I notice teeth A LOT. Misalignment doesn't bother me as much, what bothers me is that a lot of people are super careless about dental hygiene. That's what ticks me off.

It depends on the person. With some people missing or bad teeth is very noticeable while with others it is not. I would also would rather have teeth pulled than have a mouth full of bad teeth, at least it shows you have been to the dentist and are doing something about it. Walking around with a bunch of rotting teeth is not a good look.

However bad breath and rotting teeth could be avoided if the person just practices proper dental hygiene.

i don'tthink you understand why i said that is shallow. Also, i am not strictly talking about missing teeth, but about teeth problems in general. Most people get a teeth problem at some point in their lives. I was talking about a situation when the person may not afford to fix the issue at the moment, not that they will leave it like that. That is why I said it sounds shallow. I wouldn't date someone who has fucked up teeth and doesn't care to fix them either. But if a guy I was talking to was trying to fix them it would be shallow for me to reject him for that.

just comes down to personal hygiene. my boyfriend has god awful teeth due to a an a**hole smashing his jaw into the pavement as a kid. but he brushes those suckers like crazy and flosses religiously. i don't care at all

Because realistically people look at other people the surround themselves with (be it friends or mates) as accessories. I know it's sad but this is why so few people have good relationships is they view their partners as a reflection of them rather than someone who cares about them. So what you see on the surface (and teeth are huge in this area) Is paramount.

It is true, i know people who did everything right about their hygene and simply got cavities because they had braces on and couldn't clean properly. Also, most kids and teens eat sweets but not everyone had lots of cavities.
Any refined carbs can cause cavities, not just sweets. Bread is one of them. Also, people who wore braces for a long period of time have higher chances of getting cavities than those who didn't. People in the past didn't have as good hygene as we have now and not everyone was toothless by the age of 50. Genetics definitely play a role into it. just as some people are more likely to get diabetes some are more likely to get cavities

Ok so let's look at your response here:
You've said it yourself some people do everything right; brush floss etc. and they still get cavities.. I agree, this is correct, so we know that isn't the root cause. If it were, these people wouldn't get them.
Refined carbs cause cavities; again, this is also correct. Carbs are sugar! Nobody equates carb consumption to sugar, but that's exactly how it breaks down in your body. See my first response; too much sugar.
Genetics do NOT play a role in it. If this were true cavities would be consistent amongst generations and that is simply not true. The difference in generations is to your point; hygiene is much better now, but look at what isn't; people spend much more time indoors now, so they aren't getting near the amount of natural Vitamin D they require, and secondly is our food sources. There is next to no Vitamin D and tons of processed sugar.

Sure, you can compare Diabetes to this; the commonality is TOO MUCH SUGAR. Diabetes is not genetic. If it was, a diabetic's ancestors would have had the same condition, which is simply not true. Diabetes, like dental health is much worse now because people aren't managing their lives well. They assume they're doing everything right and are outraged when something goes wrong. The fact is, the majority of people have no idea how to live a healthy life, because nobody ever taught them. This includes dental health.

Dude, you don't u. derstand anything. If lots of family memberse have diabetes, you are more likely to have it than someone from a family witha different genetic background. If you live healthy though you may not get it or manage not to develop the worst type of it. Same with cavities. Some people have a weaker teeth structure and are at a higher risk of getting them. Sure, with proper care they can be prevented, but it is. easier for thise people to get them.

And if to you somone eating grains and potatoes is living an unhealthy lifestyle then you may have to get reconsider some things. And not everything with carbs causes cavities. Fiber high foods are unlikely to do so. Also, you need carbs to survive, so giving them up so that you don't get cavities is not good for your health

You asked a question and I answered based off of the things I've read and seen throughout my life. You don't have to agree with me my intention wasn't to change your mind. You are free to go ahead and research wherever you like to figure out whatever you want.

Greens and potatoes don't cause an unhealthy lifestyle per se but the body breaks down to sugar. Yes you do need carbs to survive but in the Western world we consume way too much. So you can give up about 90% of your carb intake and live a healthier lifestyle.
And I think you should rethink your opinion; giving up things to live a healthier lifestyle which includes not getting cavities, is the right thing to do.

I can assure you if you do your own research you'll see everyone with poor dental health is vitamin D deficient and consumes too much sugar.

And let's face it if we go back to your initial question someone that doesn't look after themselves properly isn't really turning anyone on

first off i don't live in america
secondly, I wore braces which made my teeth hard to clean properly
thirdly, my diet was a regular teen diet, with all kinds of foods including sweets. You don't know anything about my diet or lifestyle now. The fact that I had a bad diet as a teen should influence someone the opinion other people have about me now? Even if I had them filled, I wouldn't like someone to criticise me for it if i couldn't afford it for a while. Bad teeth aren't fixable with diet, that is the problem, once you have them you can't do shit about them other than go to a dentist. So all that advice about eating healthy so that people won't judge you for itis useless for the current issue someone may have. Ifyou can't give them money to get themfixed then you aren'thelping by saying stuff like that.

Also, you're just 17, what extended life experience do you have? And what is your point at this moment? that is ok tojudge someone for having bad teeth because they may have had a point in their when they didn't have a proper diet. But I assure you, genetics play a role into it, whether you like it or not. Maybe you should look into it.

And you basically ignored some of my points. What is the purpose of judging someone based on their teeth? If you get a cavity at 16 your tooth will just get worse over time. Does that mean that you have a bad diet if you're 40 and have bad teeth or that at some point in your life something didn't go well and your teeth were affected?

Why does one person get cavities at 10 and another at 60? Nobody knows. The common denominator is too much sugar and vitamin D deficiency. That's it.

No amount of fixing your diet will fix your teeth. if you get a cavity your tooth is permanently damaged, DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? if you fucked up your teeth in your teens should people judge you at 30? you may have a perfect diet at 30, it won't do shit to repair your teeth, your tooth is not the same anymore, you need feeelings for the rest of your life for that tooth.
