Was this blazer a bad idea?

I wore this red floral jacquard blazer to a work Christmas party recently. And although I felt a sense of pride wearing it, I’ve started to feel some regret over the last few days. A concerning number of peers (who weren’t at the party but saw some photos) admitted to me that the blazer was terrible or too flashy. My mother said the same while I dressed up, but because I hardly considered her the most tasteful of women, I never took her opinion into account.

I did receive many compliments during the party itself, but in hindsight, this could’ve been the pretentious behaviour of my drunk colleagues. Now I’m starting to question some of my own styling skills. I had this blazer saved for nearly a year, specially for this occasion, but now I’m wondering if I should sell it online to refund myself. But if it’s that bad, then would anyone be willing to even buy it?

I wanna hear the broad opinions of strangers around the globe. What do you think of this garment? Hot or not?

I think the colour of trousers is wrong, and you need a thinner plain tie to pull it off. In general the widest part of your tie should match the widest part of your lapel. It in this case the red part of the lapel because the black trim is low contrast. Maybe a bow tie like the reference photo would work well too.
It's difficult to pull off a blaser that's so bright but I like the idea of it!

I think it would've been better with a Plains black tie since the Blazer itself already has a pattern. And black pants. If you wear something this eyecatching the Rest of the Outfit should be less bold. But there is nothing wrong with the Blazer itself.

It was my intention to wear a Santa-inspired suit, but I guess it’s a matter of whether it was worth it or not. I wanna dress to impress, not dress to repel, hence my wondering here if I should ditch the ensemble forever

You wore a funky tye, beige pants, brown shoes and a red blazer. It's a very bold step, I don't think you should scrap the blazer but maybe wear a black tye and black pants for it

@JustRollTheDice White pants and black shoes actually. But yes, the tie was funky (Santa heads on them). But yes, people seem to wear black bottoms with red tops the most, so I guess I should’ve kept it as simple as that
