I think that it is a challenge. I'd say it's sad to let them ruin your fun. I'd just be firm with boundaries and make sure you know what safety measures you have available to you. A can of mace or even spray paint can be a great way to threaten and ask for space. But I'm kinda jealous... Still waiting to cosplay myself 😞

I only noticed cosplay on photography sites, them having taken photos of cosplayers.
So I guess there are photographers who take pics.
I never thought of them as perverted but they don't take pics of me.
Do what you have to do.
:)
If I had that happen then maybe, but I don’t have that issue. I also always go in a group so there’s strength in numbers and one of the group is always a guy. I think my last cosplay in total was $80? $60 for the uniform and $15-20 for the wig I ended up not being able to use.
If you let them take pictures of you their probably asking for your socials so they can tag you.

Gaming, Anime, Comics, was mostly dominated by males so most of the female characters are sexualized, because it sells. So it's easy to imagine that most of the photographers who go to such events are more on the pervy side.
I also agree that cosplay can become very expensive if you want to have a good costume. Even if you're making them yourself, materials aren't cheap. If the situation is really as you describe it, then quit. It's not worth it if you feel really uncomfortable doing it.
i wouldn't but im not a picture guy , all the same though i would make the crappiest perversion of a cosplay and enjoy the con because its about you having fun , not turning people on.
Why do you assume just asking for social media is a form of being a pervert?
If you are uncomfortable, walk away
