How do you attach suspenders to your stockings?

I've tried every way possible to try clip suspenders plastic part, strap on to my stockings and it don't work. I don't want to end up ripping a hole on the stocking top. I'm using Primark stockings and Ann Summers suspenders. Should I be using AS stockings for the suspenders to attach? How do you attach suspenders to your stockings?
