"Tess Holliday is imploring her followers to recognize that people of all sizes can have eating disorders after sharing that she is anorexic and in recovery."

I mean, I don't doubt that someone her size has an eating disorder, and it is entirely possible for overweight people to suffer from anorexia- we only really associate anorexia with its late stage progression, because that's when it really becomes visible.
But to imply that you have "recovered" from anorexia and started "caring" for your body by becoming morbidly obese instead... well that's obviously a farce.
But then again, severe denial is a major component of obesity, so I'd expect someone like her to have such twisted narrative.
Also, man.
I feel the pain of that personal trainer in that video.
I've had obese clients and it's torture having to listen to what are, literally, just their delusions and act like you are taking them seriously.
You can't tell them that what they just said is bullcrap, because they will never come back again.
Someone like this needs an obesity counselor and behavioral therapy, bothering a personal trainer with this and pretending they are at the gym to "get into some shape and feel better about themselves" when they clearly have a huge mental health issue isn't going to help them.
Buuuuuuuuuuuullsheeeeeeeeeeeet!
Tess Holliday is also an extremely shitty human being (feminist too; no surprise) who steals money meant for charity, scams donators, and Photoshops her own photos while claiming to be "natural" and "real" and "eff your beauty standards" and all that garbage. I'm not even a woman and I normally would be into thick redheads, but she is a hideous, awful human being, up there with Amber Heard. And I seriously doubt she wouldn't do something like this to attention.
I hope that she gets help for it, and that her symptoms stop being so hard for her.
And to people who think that people with anorexia can't be over a certain weight, people with anorexia nervosa can binge eat too. It just often happens for different reasons. It has more to do with the body getting mad at you for not eating, thus making you physically crave more food. With bulimia, the binge eating happens first. I think anyway. It's a very simplified explanation from someone who doesn't know all that much about eating disorders. But I do know that people with anorexia can binge eat too.
Not to mention, different people's bodies react differently to different amounts of food. It's completely possible for someone to be plus sized and also struggle with anorexia. And dealing with her anorexia symptoms will probably actually help her lower her weight, if that is something she wants to do. Because then she could approach it in a more healthy, objective way, with realistic and healthy goals.
People struggling with anorexia are not actually sickly thin for the most part. That's just when it gets attention, because that's when it becomes life threatening. Just because she doesn't look like the "poster girl" for anorexia, doesn't mean she isn't struggling, and it doesn't mean that she doesn't need help. And for the people saying, that it somehow makes it worse for people who have anorexia and actually "look the part"... how does it? It shows that this disease can look so many ways, and that it can be right in front of us without us noticing. That's exactly the problem with eating disorders, and it actually puts that problem into light. Hating over or making fun of someone who is sick, is some of the most unnecessary cruelness.

There’s a difference between obese and fat and people don’t realize that this isn’t self love, self love is working out, eating healthy food 80% of the time and take care of your mental health. And about Tess Holiday i think she can be anorexic, i mean anorexia isn’t looking super skinny sometimes it’s about your mind and a lot of people are anorexic but the body doesn’t show that also when the person is really skinny it’s bc she’s already in the worst stage of the anorexia. I hope Tess get better :)❤️
(i have ed and body dysmorphia so i understand her)
Just my opinion i didn’t read the site.🦋
also about Tess Holiday I don't know her like i don’t watch her stuffs so i can't tell properly if she's workout or eat healthy !
how i said I don't know if she workout tbh i think she don’t i don’t wanna to be mean but being very honest she looks lazy and obese but i don’t like to say that stuffs bc i feel bad lol
I’m a very healthy person, workout 5x-6x per week and eat healthy 80% of the time, whatever it is her situation i hope she can get through this.
I do believe she's got an eating disorder but I believe she's dealing with the same symptoms as an anorexic has but hers could be different where she overeats
then makes her self get sick but also she could take laxatives to lose weight I
was overweight and developed an eating disorder I went from 259 lbs down to
160 lbs I loss nearly 100 lbs shy by one pound but I ate less than what a baby
would eat or small child after I did this horrible diet.. It's left me with years
with health issues ( low blood sugar, high blood pressure, fluid retention,
diabetes, low male hormone levels, hypogonadism, mental health illnesses,
hair loss, abnormal blood counts, weight loss, I gained extreme weight
went to 372 lbs and loss 100 lbs and right now weigh 268 Yes life has
been challenging for me in many ways.. When my Mother passed
I binged overeating and ended at the Hospital with Bowl Obstruction
I’m not surprised. The few times I’ve met her she seemed rather distressed and unhappy. Let’s not forget that anorexia isn’t an eating disorder, it’s an mental illness. It’s the way she sees herself in a body dysmorphic way.
I once worked with a guy that was really buff and in shape. But one day I realized he was Bulimic. Just because some is in shape and muscular doesn’t mean he didn’t suffer from this disorder. The same is true for Tess. Just because she doesn’t have an ideal body shape doesn’t mean she doesn’t suffer from anorexia.
People only seem to notice they have this disorder until it becomes extreme. In any case it’s best to just be supportive. So I hope she can get the help she needs. And considering she has overcome the biggest hurdle, self awareness, I think she can achieve some inner peace.
I read about her background which was horrible, her mother was shot in the head and paralyzed by her own fiance, the real father was abusive, like a lot of us she was bullied growing up. I think she has a lot of food issues not just anorexia, one could suspect binge eater as well. with trauma people use lots of things to cope and control, food is a big one of those mechanisms.
I know you can be anorexic technically at any size but i'm pretty sure she's not I mean she's litterally SUPER MORBIDELY OBESE ffs
Plus she'd have lost a lot of weight by now, probably in the 100lbs, since you lose weight really quick at super high weights like that, especially if you're eating like an anorexic. It's obvious that even if she restricts, she still binges or overreats a lot without purging so that can't be anorexia anyways, maybe mia, but i don't know. Pretty sure she's using anorexia super loosely anyways lol, i mean she litterally thinks eating vegetables is bad for your mental health, and that trying to avoid being obese is disordered eating and means you hate fat people..
Seems like she's has had a very troubled relationship with food for a long time. I don't know who this person is, assuming she is someone famous (ish?). To me it seems like some other eating disorder might have turned into anorexia later, or she has multiple different ones at the same time. Sounds pretty sad. But she is right to say that people of all sizes can have anorexia, since having anorexia doesn't mean you're instantly skin an bone.
Thank you.
She very well may be now anorexic! She may have gotten so fed up with her weight she is turning anorexic? It is possible, as a kid who grew up with family in the medical field even really fat people sometimes turns anorexic. So if you are saying yeah right look at her built, you are wrong.
Looks like all of that attention for being a pretty BBW (or extra thick, or plus-sized, or whatever euphemism you want to use) has come into conflict with her realization that she's plain obese. That can definitely lead to anorexia as an overcompensation. One of the biggest heartbreakers in this situation is that she has already ruined her body to the point where even if she lost fat down to a healthy level using healthy diet strategies, she'd still have tons of extra skin hanging everywhere and wouldn't look appealing.
Yet another situation where rationalisation, attention, and "body positive" encouragement has led down a very bad path
This seems like a post to bash her weight and say that she isn't anorexic. You don't have to be skinny to be anorexic, anorexia comes in all shape and forms. I hope she gets treated and gets better soon. This comment section is actually disgusting, especially the male section. Not all anorexics are skinny.
Anorexics come in all sizes, although test holiday shares a lot of views and presents a very false image for body positivity. I’m not going to invalidate her anorexia. If anything statistics show that the majority of anorexics aren’t all underweight.
All you need to be anorexic is to have an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat
Eating disorder sure I can believe that. Anorexia, um yeah but m not buying that. Iirc anorexia symptoms include severe malnutrition, lack of energy, organ failure,
Stunted growth combined with psychological disorder involving, body dismorphy, self esteem issues, a lack of desire to eat.
Anorexia is LITERALLY characterized by having an extremely low body weight and a fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of weight. They eat so little and workout so much that they can’t physically keep any weight on she’s not anorexic her life isn’t in any danger from her weight being so low she’s got a while to go
Funny!!! Anorexia is like depression. The signs aren’t always there until the person kills themself.
People don’t start out thin and then become anorexic. They start out overweight and become anorexic. We only think about the end result of the ultra thin person.
So before you go judging get the facts and know the signs before someone you know kills themself.

Hey don’t take it up with me I got my information from here
Anorexia though, is defined by the unusually low body weight which is when people get into trouble
@msc545 if someone fasts for 3 days that’s not anorexia. It’s restricting your diet to the point of extreme weight loss. It’s due to your mental health which you can’t notice until it’s at that point. People can say “I had anorexia this whole time” but you’re not anorexic until you hit that point
You people are idiots!!! If you read further it says:
Symptoms
The physical signs and symptoms of anorexia nervosa are related to starvation. Anorexia also includes emotional and behavioral issues involving an unrealistic perception of body weight and an extremely strong fear of gaining weight or becoming fat.
It may be difficult to notice signs and symptoms because what is considered a low body weight is different for each person, and some individuals may not appear extremely thin. Also, people with anorexia often disguise their thinness, eating habits or physical problems.
So let’s stop defining anorexia by its PHYSICAL appearances alone.
We aren't defining it based on the physical appearance alone
It's an illness that involves both physical AND psychological symptoms.
Currently she very well may have the psychological symptoms, all we have to go by is her own words, to which it's better to believe her.
We do not have her biometrics, things like glucose levels/ blood work. A doctor can't tell us that all we have to go by is her words and observation.
We can take her at her word on the psychological symptoms but there is a huge disconnect between observation and her own claim. It would be an easy matter to resolve this if blood work results could be obtained.
"An eating disorder causing people to obsess about weight and what they eat"
That's the description that is it. It's a mental illness. Being underweight is a symptom not the diagnosis. Do some research jesus
She doesn’t have the symptoms from the DSMV. It’s medically defined as a phobia of being fat and the person has to be significantly underweight and if the person is a female the second criteria is the lack of a period. There 2 types ; restrictive and binge purging.
No psychiatrist would diagnose her with this. Tess is literally just making this up for attention and this is insulting to people who are actually dying from anorexia.
That is NOT the body of an anorexic. If anything, of a bulimic.
She is not seeing herself as fat because of a (hopefully) mental issue while being as thick as a stickbug. She sees herself fat because she IS fat. Anorexia is just that: no matter how much weight you lose, you always see yourself as too fat to be attractive.
Do you think this is the case? I personally don't.
She quite surely has mental issues, just not the one she expressed concern about having.
As someone that struggled with an ED, but was short and had an hour glass figure, it was tough. I never got below a 4/6 although I ate healthy, less than 500 calories, and worked out 4-6 days a week for hours each day. It was upsetting to never reach “skinny.” I wasn’t fat, but no one would ever guess I had an eating disorder. So I will not judge her for this. She could have a medical condition that caused sudden extreme weight gain.
She may have binge eating disorder which could be mistaken as anorexia because she can not eat enough one day and then eat lots of food the next causing severe weight gain. She may eat a salad a day, and then eat ice cream, pizza, pasta etc the next. Binge eaters typically tend to do that. Her statement may be for attention because saying such things can draw attention.
Hmm interesting, does she have something else than food that makes her have such body weight? Because anorexia tends to make a person become skinny. Or was she just not doing it that long? Either way good for her, much healthier ways to lose weight than not eating.
She doesn't know what anorexia is clearly. Morbidly obese is not anorexic, in fact its literally the exact opposite of it. Unless she is saying she use to be and then went the exact opposite direction into yet another unhealthy life style.
Anorexia isn't a size description anyone can have anorexia. Look up the definition nincompoop
@Smashingdoozy I already know what the definition is thats why I made my comment (and you didn't which is why you made yours). The medical definition of anorexia is: "An eating disorder characterized by abnormally low body weight". Ergo it is literally defined by size descriptions. She is not under weight she is over weight by orders of magnitude. So she is literally the exact opposite of some one who is anorexic by medical definition of the term anorexic. Next time you want to start a fight, maybe do a little research first so you don't look ignorant and make a fool of yourself. Also nincompoop is a terrible insult, no one is getting offended by it.
"An eating disorder causing people to obsess about weight and what they eat.
Anorexia is characterised by a distorted body image, with an unwarranted fear of being overweight.”
Being underweight is a symptom.
@Smashingdoozy And she is not doing that, so yeah, thank you for proving my point.
How do you think people who become anorexic (body wise) start off? 🤦🏻♀️
@Smashingdoozy How do you think anorexic people start off, and continue to be? You are really desperately trying to support something that is not supported by reality, so the question is why not just admit that she is clearly not anorexic, that she is morbidly obese (which again is the exact opposite of anorexic), and that if her view of herself was that she saw herself as morbidly obese its because she is literally morbidly obese and that would be you know, not anorexia?
You can have an illness of having negative thoughts about food and obsess about your weight and what you eat and be diagnosed with anorexia BEFORE it affects your body drastically. It's really not that hard to understand I don't get why you are so ignorant to that. It's called atypical anorexia. Do some damn research it's not that hard.
@Smashingdoozy Okay but again, all your doing is showing that you don't know what anorexia is. If she is obesseing about her diet, it hasn't affected her to any degree, but more importantly saying to yourself that you need to lose weight because your morbidly obese when your morbidly obese isn't anorexia, that is seeing yourself for exactly what you are and realizing you need to get healthier.
Jesus Christ DO THE RESEARCH. just look up "atypical anorexia" omfg 🤦🏻♀️
@Smashingdoozy I did the research, I gave you the literal fucking definition. Are you stupid or just insane?
No you didn't. "Atypical anorexia is a type of eating disorder where patients, mostly females, present with restrictive behaviours and fear of weight gain but don't meet the low weight criteria seen in anorexia nervosa. In fact, their weight is often within or even above the normal range for their age."
@Smashingdoozy Yeah, and they are not MORBIDLY OBESE. Restricting one's diet when morbidly obese isn't anorexia, its a fucking diet. Their is no way some one can view themselves as morbidly obese as a psychological condition when they are in fact MORBIDLY FUCKING OBESE. Thats not having an unrealistic view of one's self, that is having a very realistic view of one's self.
So you are completely and totally batshit insane clearly, because its not a difficult concept to grasp. If she thinks she is morbidly overweight and needs to diet to stop being morbidly obese, that is not anorexia, that is her realizing she is morbidly obese and her realizing she needs to diet in order to stop being morbidlly obese. In all my life, I never once thought I would have to explain such a simple fucking concept to some one, anyone, let alone a fucking adult.
You're an idiot. Read it again and again and again until you can understand it.
@Smashingdoozy Yeah, I'm not the one not understanding here, your oblivious to reality. You cannot be anorexic if you see yourself as morbidly obese and are in fact morbidly obese. The only way that works is if you are arguing that being morbidly obese is the natural weight of a person which it very much isn't. Ergo you are either insanely stupid OR your just insane.
"other within or above normal weight" pretty sure obese would be above no?
Often*
@Smashingdoozy Except that is not the case. Not showing signs yet is not the same as being overweight. Again, you cannot think that your overweight and feel a need to fix it and it be a health issue if your actually overweight and need to fix it. Again, insanely stupid argument on your part and why your so desperate to make this person a victim when its very clear this is not anorexia that its not an actual issue that she is dealing with (as she has none of the symptoms of anorexia and is again, morbidly obese) is beyond me. Stop enabling bad behavior just so you can act like your a good person, just be a good person, call out the bullshit and push for people to be the best version of themselves they can be, morbidly obese and desperate for attention isn't the best version she can be and your trying to encourage that.
Omg you are impossible. If you are starving yourself to lose weight that is not healthy. If you are afraid of gaining weight when you eat that is not healthy it is a fucking eating disorder. Just stop you're honestly so stupid.
A person doesn't have to be a skeleton to be anorexic because it's a psychological condition that also can in typical patients have being underweight as a symptom. Hence there being an ATYPICAL section. You would seriously say that an overweight person starving themselves isn't a problem? You're ridiculous.
It's literally in the DSM 5 under OSFED
@Smashingdoozy Never said she had to be a skeleton. I have no idea why you persist in trying to defend that which is provably not true. No one has stated you have to be a skeleton to be anorexic, what you DO have to be is unhealthy obsessed with your weight and afraid of being fat and she is morbidly obese, has talked about how its healthy and normal to be morbidly obese, and that is again, THE LITERAL FUCKING OPPOSITE OF ANOREXIC.
Now I have to wonder if your insanely fucking stupid or your trolling the fuck out of me. On the one hand I hope your trolling me because this level of stupid just shouldn't exist, but at the same time in the era we live in, I'm actually afraid you really are this insanely stupid to think that being morbidly obese, applauding it is the same as believing that your morbidly obese when your not and desperately trying to make yourself thinner (which again, tess holiday IS NOT FUCKING DOING).
🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ read the DSM.
Bye
@Smashingdoozy Yeah, reality hasn't changed and you don't understand what your reading. Goodbye.
If she was anorexic she wouldn't be a blimp. Anorexia is associated with a false perception of oneself that leads to undereating and malnutrition... She just knows she's gross and obese, and that itself doesn't make her anorexic.
I’m so sick of the fat acceptance movement! Eating more calories than you burn does not make you special. It makes you unhealthy, sick and a burden to society when your unhealthy habits catch up to you and you spend the rest of your short days in and out if hospitals getting limbs cut off and desperately clinging to life on dialysis. Stop normalizing obesity! It’s a disease and a much bigger plague than covid ever thought about being
I doubt a doctor would diagnose a 350 lb woman with Anorexia Nervosa. The severity of the disease is based on the BMI of the person suffering. Her BMI is nowhere near the number to be officially diagnosed with Anorexia. Her self-diagnosis is meaningless and it’s comparable to me saying I have Mercury poisoning because I feel run down and tired.
Anorexia is an eating disorder where you feel a need to keep your weight as low as possible. Symptoms of anorexia include believing you're fat when you're a healthy weight or underweight, eating very little or missing meals. She is not Anorexic. She has an eating disorder.
You don’t get to that size by being anorexic.
Interesting. I know emotional disorders can manifest in many different ways but I have not considered that for anorexia.
I don't know why I'm supposed to have an opinion on someone else's eating disorder. that's her personal business and I think she's brave to try and bring awareness to the fact that people with ED don't all look the same
Anorexic? How can someone be anorexic and has this weight? Binge eaters and anorexic at the same time are the ones who might be her category, I think she has Anorexia nervosa, and Bing eats.
But she's so pretty despite her weight.
As a nurse she could be in very early stages of anorexia!
@Laciandmaci Yes, you know better than me, but there is some cases where the person binge eats and starves himself at the same time.
yes that is also true!!! Take care hun!
@Laciandmaci You too:) Are you a nurse? Do you still practice it?
I am actually a resident nurse working in the ICU and nutritional dept.
@Laciandmaci I've always wanted to work in the medical field, so you do everything concerning nutrion?
some yes not all I an not assigned to one particular dept. The hospital keeps moving me arounf to see what dept I like best! So far I like the ICU!
What the... 😐 if she lost over like 100 pounds in a month then I would believe it...
not to be mean. But.. she’s obese. I think what she means is an eating disorder. Eating toooo much. 🤭
Tess holliday im ngl is kind of fucking stupid she’s had sm bad takes so it make it hard to take her seriously 😐 she said the word “healthy” had negative connotations to it. Then went and thanked a girl on her Instagram who called her “healthy” but yeah she’s weird.
It’s sad that people only talk about fat to obese people but dare not to talk about people with cancer, syndromes, though if you have a disability that is obesity you’ll be bound to be bullied and teased.
many people have an unhealthy and complicated relationship with their body, and it doesn’t look the same across the board
that’s my only takeaway
Eating disorders are based on mental stuff, so they dont have a certain look. It's possible that she found out she could have an eating disorder in the beginning of the process. Pretending like she has an eating disorder wouldn't be a good way to get attention, i guess she is kinda trying to raise awareness...
wow. how does she then still manage to be so fat? that must be some serious determination to stay big. i mean either that or that claim is bullshit. yeah she obviously has an eating disorder. anorexia? unlikely story.
Who is Tess Holliday? LOL And whoever she is, that girl is NOT anorexic. LOL
LMAO... did I get downvoted for not knowing who she is, or for stating the obvious?
Anorexia is a disease not a size description.
"An eating disorder causing people to obsess about weight and what they eat.”
She has serious issues. And frankly, I don't give a shit about her one way or the other. Her and her tats are disgusting.
Hmmm I don’t believe this to be honest... seems like a desperate plea for media attention... nobody is that size without food and maybe she suffers from dysmorphia but as a recovering anorexic I don’t believe it.
Not all the people saying she can’t anorexia because she’s overweight. Big yikes. I don’t like her but I hope she gets the proper help.
I don't believe her, but if it's true, she should hold the cure and get into a proper size before fixing her issue and call it a blessing.
Anorexic when? On opposite day?
anorexia by definition is having an abnormally low body weight - For a whale she definitely matches the description - Yea I believe her she is anorexic
It depends on what definition she's using, and it may be applicable if you interpret it loosely, and even if you do that, she's only anorexic via a technicality, but we all know in practicality that what she's saying is very silly.
Should get help no matter what. It is nothing to mess with.
If she is, then I hope she gets better at some point. That's gotta be a pain to deal with.
Making claims like that could damage real anorexics chances of being taken seriously.
Not true. Many people suffer from anorexia but you rare see or hear about it until it becomes extreme. When we have a mental image of anorexia all we see is the end result. They don’t start out extremely thin. They start out overweight and it progresses to something extreme. Thankfully she has been diagnosed early before internal damage has happened. Hopefully her condition will help the cause for others to realize their dysmorphia before it becomes tragic.
If she has anorexia she probably didn’t have it long.
Wait. I’m confused. I don’t know who that is. Is that the morbidly obese woman in the photos? If so, how is it possible she’s anorexic?
She is overweight and needs treatment before it kills her. THERE, I SAID IT
The male comment section has me dying. I also feel kinda bad cuz I think like men 🤣🤣
She might identify as a person with anorexia but no way she has actual anorexia.
Yea many fat people have a bad relationship with food. So not surprising
She's overweight, fat and obese.
Apparently, she has acquired this disorder only recently :)
But I feel 'supportive' about any fatty who wants to improve weight-wise.
Maybe she fits the criteria by literal definition, but she looks polar opposite of being anorexic
YOU ARE JUST OBESE 150 meals ahead and 120 shits behind.
When she says that, does she really mean an hour went by without her eating something?
Skipping a meal once in awhile or eating normal people portions is not an eating disorder. What she has is a full blown mental disorder.
Yeah I’m premenstrual. I think it’s important for you to know such a detail, at this stage of our friendship.
complete and utter bullshit.. wow. i guarantee her only eating disorder is failure to put the sandwich down...
She’s such a terrible, nasty person.
However, I don’t believe it. I suspect she’s getting some form of stomach surgery to lose weight rapidly, because she IS morbidly obese, and wants to hide it.
She is so fat when she walks by past my TV I miss all MCU , star wars , fast and furious and harry Potter movies
