I would pick red. Black in european culture (and former European colonies like USA or Australia) is linked with sadness and death. Of course it's not only death, black is also considered classy, but Christmas is a time to be happy and not sad, that's why I would avoid it. And red is quite a happy color. It's a color of love (no wonder why hearts on pictures are always red).

I think it depends on what kind of event you plan on showing up to and what kinds of accessories you plan on going with it, if any. And determining for yourself what you think would look best on you.

But in general, I’d say for more sexy chic vibes go with black.
