I choose the second girl because I have a lot of respect for girls that choose to cover despite how many societies/cultures promote the "flaunt it if you got it" attitude. Even as a man I cover myself properly. Modesty is beautiful to me no matter what anyone says.

@frenchfriesnoketchup My subconcious didn't magically decide that that style of dress was associated with oppression. It's because a lot of times when I see that style, it's from countries that force women to cover their hair under penalty of law.

@frenchfriesnoketchup Actually, I had a friend that moved here from the middle east. I listened to her own accounts, and it was bad. I realize not all middle eastern and Muslims are the same, but I do know there's some truth to it by her accounts.

Oh yes interestingly i have a hijabi friend who was denied access to a swimming pool in france because she is “too covered up” how is this any different from ur friends experience lol? Does ur media cover stories like my friends’? 💀💀 surely doesn’t. Our culture, religion, and clothes we are proud of them and they are none of anyone’s business. Imagine going to a religious indigenous tribe and calling a piece of cloth they wear names. Covering the head is not just religious its also our culture even men wear head covers of all varieties as part of our national costumes and i think western countries have bigger issues such as systemic racism or not allowing women into pools than to worry about us❤️

@frenchfriesnoketchup That's ridiculous that she was denied access to a pool for being too covered up. My friend was severely beaten by her husband. Her father told her to stay with her husband because of their religious beliefe (to be fair, I'm sure that's happened a lot with Christianity too). He turned a blind eye to it until the guy cut 3 of her fingers off. That's quite a bit different.

But his behaviour is not acceptable and if she has went to the police he would have been in jail. I am saudi and in saudi if a man beats a woman he’ll be dragged to jail atm.

Just to be clear violence against women is an entire “global pandemic” but western culture portrays that violence as acceptable in the middle east when its really not. Its a punishable crime and it has severe consequences not just legally but also societally its completely unacceptable and not normalized. Sure it could be in a “household” but not outside that house pr legally of course! A victim could think its normal because of victim trauma and all that but if she steps out in fact we do not have systemic racism and every case will be resolved.

@frenchfriesnoketchup i understand. I've heard Saudia Arabi is more progressive than some others. Speaking of, I'm 42, and some of my perceptions could be due to issues from decades ago. A lot changes in a few decades. I know things here have... in some good, bad, and ridiculous ways.. I also realize that governments and media tend to skew things the way they want people to see them.
