Not really, it was even worse.
look at 1920’s flapper girls, all skinny etc, no fat ones… mainly as those sizes did not exist, however the bodies did.
Roll on to the 1950’s that Hollywood or fashion magazine look, yeah that was it fat people existed, they did not get to wear those types of clothes.
it’s only fairly recently that larger sizes have become available and people given a choice.
Same with clothes for tall people, never really was available in the shops, even now if someone is 6’7 they struggle.
Back to the question, no not really fashion is based predominantly an range around average, the design is made with that in mind.
it’s not just larger people but also shorter, taller, girls with larger boobs, girls with small boobs.
Not everything can be worn by everyone.
some dresses look great with a C cup, but don’t look as good with an A cup.
then some look great with an A but don’t look as good with a C
Some dresses need to be avoided if a larger body, same with t shirts or polo shirts for guys with a large gut.
Now, should designers design stuff for larger and shorter etc, they do but you tend to pay far more due to more ‘bespoke’ design.
You can buy clothes designed for larger people, however reduced range usually available and more expensive.
No, it definitely should not. Fashion LITERALLY only exists to make money. Overweight and ugly people are not profitable (if they were, I'd be a f*ckin' model). Thus, fashion should NOT be suitable for "all body types." It's not society's fault you're insecure with yourself. (I said that as someone who's insecure with his own body.)
And I'm sick of selfish people thinking society should be turned upside down for their pathetic egos. All the "body positivity (aka "shaming attractive people")" and "fat acceptance" BS. Like most movements, it has BS false narratives of being about "accepting yourself as you are" and promoting positivity, when it's really just being jealous of women skinnier and more attractive than you, and not using them as motivation to get better, but instead, to spew vitriol and envious hate.
If you're too fat to fit Big And Tall clothing, or SSBBW clothing, then that's a YOU problem. (I may be overweight, but they sell 44 waist pants and I can fit into them. I'm not whining about the fact they cost extra.)
As for that lady above with the dumpy body; she can wear whatever she wants. That's her right. But no one has to approve of it, tell her she looks good (lying), or give her a "you go girl!" for her celebration of mediocrity.
Not all body types but most of them yeah.
I understand how stores not having enough cute clothes above the size of L- XL (sizes 14-16) is completely unfair however, there is a certain point where fashion cannot be held accountable for being unable to suit a rather large person.
No. People are responsible to chose what's suitable for them. That said, even with 2 people with the same body size, an outfit might look amazing on one and crap on the other.
And what's suitable? Cause it seems like suitable is considered that we all must or qt least try to look slender

Clothing WAS suitable for all body types prior to modern fast fashion. Clothing was tailored and made for each person. In the 50's, for example, the dresses were cinched at the waist and created an hourglass figure even on chubbier girls.
Nowadays, girls just buy whatever is on the rack and attempt to squeeze into it despite the fact that it isn't suitable for her.
@Wraith_Cemetery You are way too young to have experienced anything regarding the 50's.
@Mac-One What does that have to do with anything? Experts in medieval history didn't live in the 12th or 13th centuries either. It's called research and knowledge of food, materials, clothing, weaponry et cetera. I'm a historian with a focus on clothing, lifestyle, pop culture of several eras pre-1960. I do a lot of in-depth reenactment and live how they did.
Yes, the current fashion industry is bullshit and I should not have to see a size 16 labeled as plus size, but that is a whole other thing.
It is not bloody hard to make clothes in a variety of sizes, what people buy and wear is up to them but the options should be there.
You can wear anything you want to.
How others see things is beyond your control.
I have seen some outfits that I would have questioned on if it was an good choice, but if the person wearing it is happy with what they are wearing, who am I to judge?
Fashion is what actually looks good on you rather than what you think looks good on you. So going by that, fashion is subjective to an individual person and thus is available for everyone.
Have you seen runway models? Lol
no. fashion should be made for specific body types. there should be fashion made to "hide" parts of your body and there should be fashion "to show off". depending on what you got. like if you're a fat slob, you should be allowed to hide your obesity a little. and if you're hot, you should be able to show that off, cause that deserves respect and acknowledgement.
Well, suitable as in "available as an option", sure. But it's not all going to look good.
Some fashions are not for every body type. No body and mean NOBODY wants to see me in a speedo.
i don't think it should be made for unhealthily obese bodies. obese people need to lose weight and not having pretty clothes to wear but be one more reason for them on why they should lose weight.
Some bodies aren't compatible with fashion while other can be just wrapped in plastic bags and will still appear fashionable.
It’s totally your fault if you’re fat, more fashion for more fat people might even encourage people to be fat and that’s no good for society.
Yes.. it should be one has the right to wear what they want and what makes them comfertable.
of course not. inclusion is inherently exclusionary because the more people something has to include the less people it can be MADE for
I'm not about to wear a moomoo in this lifetime.
That is totally inappropriate for her.
Why?
should old men wear speedos?
And why not?
Yeah no
Nope
