Well, the first and most important thing is to find a good artist. Do some research and find a really good one. Don't take any pain killers or medications before the appointment (it will make the tattooing process harder and prolong it, also can cause the tattoo to heal badly). Make sure to eat and get a good sleep before the appointment, you can also bring snacks to the studio (some artists advise you to bring water and snacks with you if you are doing bigger tattoos). Feel free to tell them if you need a break during the session.

About the aftercare, there are two ways. The first one is with cling foil, apparently it's the best for healing but it's a bit complicated because you have to change the foil every day (also during the day, and put cream constantly). You also need to wear it while sleeping so clothes don't stick to the ink. The second option is Saniderm foil. It's the foil tattoo artist puts on right after tattooing and you take it off only the fifth or sixth day after getting the tattoo. Afterwards, you only put cream - you can't let your tattoo dry, so it's very important to wash it in lukewarm water and put a cream.

Another thing is you have to hide the tattoo from the sun rays for some time after getting it done. Then later, always remember to use sunscreen so your tattoo doesn't fade out.

The best thing for aftercare is to listen to what your tattoo artist is going to say. They will talk you through the whole aftercare process and probably give you a paper with instructions per day. You can ask them whatever interests you, and they will explain it to you. Also, you can always message them if you have any questions or if there is some problem with healing, etc.

Oh, also avoid scratching the tattoo while it's healing. It will be peeling but you mustn't touch that skin, tear it or something.

Shop around and pay attention to each artists style.
I believe its paracetamol you can take before, and can also look into numbing creams.
Research and make a choice about your tattoo after care, and stock up on cling film.
Relax, and try to take something to help distract you.

the see through plastic you use on food.
hence why you need to shop around, to ask and see what they suggest and would want you to do to prep etc.

    Well allow me...

Do your research on the artists. Every artist will be a specialist in some artstyle. So do your research in what style you want and then find the suited artist. Don't do names. No exes, no best friends. If relationships die, you will be stuck with that awful memory on your body. Other language? Check the translation or spelling beforehand. 'Stay Stong' would be horrible on your arm, right? Be on time, and don't question the price.
Lastly be one hundred percent sure

the best tip and advice I can give you on tattoos is... to go to an actual tattoo artist shop, and get a consultation with an actual, professional tattoo artist

that's about the bets thing you could ever do

can you walk in for a consultation or is it a call first type of deal?

at most places, you can walk in and ask for an appointment for it, maybe they receive you right away

but the most convenient is to call first, or message them, email etcétera
