Unpopular opinion but pale skin is way better than tan skin (from the sun)?

I think this is mostly a matter of what is more rare and status signalling.

Historically being pale would indicate you did not have to work in the sun, had enough means to worry about clothing against the sun. Could choose to just stay indoors etc. In many aspects pale skin, if also healthy, would be a sign of wealth and status, nobility even. That may have been a major reason for past preferences.

Now, we could employ the same logic. Only, having a good tan is more costly. You need free time. Maybe a vacation or two. The situation has completely turned.

I can like both. I am not sure which I prefer more.

Tanning is rather stupid. It leads to premature aging and can cause skin cancer.

Plenty of men love fair skinned women. Protect yourself from the sun amd you can look quite youthful into your 60s.
