Girls, Do you think a sports bra is the female equivalent to the male jockstrap?

It depends. Sometimes jockstraps are only cloth and elastic… Those aren’t protective at all. However, some jockstraps or cups have padding/plastic that goes inside the pants to give more protection. The ones with padding/plastic are more protected compared to sports bras.


Sports bras aren’t very protective, and they aren’t made to protect the breasts. So, they can still damage or injure the breasts if something were to hit the breasts. Sports bras are usually just a thin layer of padding to cover the nipples and elastic type material to hold the breasts in place and give support.


Both jockstraps and sports bras are created to hold things in place, but jockstraps are more intended to protect, sports bras are not. Not sure if I would say it’s the equivalent, if we’re looking into the specifics.

Oh that’s interesting I thought guys just wore jockstraps in sports to hold their penis. I didn’t know they had to wear a cup too

They use cups in sports like baseball. If a baseball hits that area at any speed, it will hurt and damage the male genitals. Cups are necessary for that. I’m not sure what other sports use just the cloth jockstraps, but both cups and jockstraps have the purpose of holding and protecting the genitals.

I can’t imagine wearing a hard plastic cup around my boobs! I feel sorry for guys, that must be uncomfortable

As a girlfriend with a guy athlete or ex they don’t always wear cups under the jock strap! Sometimes it is just to hold it in place or keep it more out of harms way but sometimes they do wear cups! Apparently lots of football players wear jock straps but no cups. Same with some wrestlers

Well a sports bra is really just to support our boobs and hold them in place for when we are running or doing physical activities, whereas jockstraps hold a solid cup in place between a guy’s legs to protect his balls from a hard impact and being hit. So they are not quite the same and serve different purposes, like one is for support and comfort, and the other is for protection from a serious impact. I train in Thai boxing that allows full contact strikes to the groin, and some of the guys do wear jockstraps, but at the mid-higher levels they cannot wear them. I always wear a sports bra for training though.

Well I’m sure they wear underwear of some kind, but effectively yes as long as their junk is not protected in any way.

OMG NO! A sports bra is to keep your boobs in place while exercising and epecially if you are running. It hurts a lot if you dont have a sprots bra on and are running. My husband has two jock straps and the little triangle that goes inside it and that is for protection. He says that it is the worst pain you can have to get hit in the balls.

Not a sports bra, no. A shell bra, yes. Plastic shell-like inserts for a bra to protect the mammary tissue.

I have, actually. Had a friend who played when she was younger and some of her classmates and her sister had a pair

I’m a catcher and it can really suck getting a foul tip to the chest. for a long time I never wore a jill strap and it’s made a huge difference
