Do you assume women with short hair are lesbian?

Saw a friend at a restaurant tonight so we said hi. He hadn't met my wife yet and she was with me, but he thought she was just a friend at first.

It's not that uncommon for people to assume we're friends or siblings instead of a couple, but in this case he actually told me it was because she had short hair he assumed she was lesbian.

I do know a few lesbians and more of them definitely have short hair than straight women do, but still at least half of women who have short hair are not lesbians. So why would someone just assume based on hair, when that's not really a good indicator?

I don't know man but I'd bet money it's <50—especially if you include older women who keep their hair short for convenience, and cultures where women normally have short hair. But even if you only include women in long-hair cultures who have short hair because they want to, I still think it'd be <50.
