Why do people assume with short hair you must be lesbian or bi sexual?

I had a conversation with some users on here and some in person which led to this post. why do a lot of people assume a female with a short hair cut is lesbian or bi sexual? There are plenty of female who have a short hair cut that are not any of those, plenty have long hair. there are also plenty of guys in sports who are not gay sporting man buns, dreads, ponytails etc

Because A) Most lesbians have that as their signature haircut, and B) according to this website - and hell, real life - apparently almost half of all women are gay, so making such assumptions isn't TOO far off. 44.6% are, queer according to THIS post. Which is just SO f*cked up... Only 55.4% of women are actually into men, i. e, heterosexual/straight. Seriously, that's the most depressing, "just give up life right now" sh*t I've seen all week.

Because we live in a very judgmental place, where everyone thinks they know everything and they don't know shit, if you don't ask. my wife had short hair due to the military and loved it then through her chemo had it, people thought lots of things because they are assh*les

I don't assume someone is lesbian or bi just because they have short hair especially if short hair is trendy at the time, but there is a full look that would surprise me to find out they're straight.

It doesn't make sense to me. They're making a big deal out of nothing. I got my hair cut a year or two ago and I have short hair. I'm in NO WAY lesbian or bisexual

It's all in our mind that we have seen in our 100 of years. So as time changed something changed with time, but still people have these certain kinda things in mind they just see as traditional approach. That's why i guess

Because that is the case more often than not, if not today then certainly in the past.

So its a hold over from an old sterotype and like all sterotypes there is an element of truth to it.

I disagree with your absolute language though, I do not accept that 'people assume it must be the case' rather they wonder if it might be the case.
