What sort of hair accessories look pretty?

I've been thinking about putting ribbons in my hair, but I'm trying to see what people's thoughts are on hair accessories before I commit to trying it out. Ideally a ribbon or a bow.

I like the dark ones in the top picture.
The pink ones are too pronounced for my taste.
The accessory shouldn't pull too much attention itself but rather enhance what's already there I feel.

A well-position scroungy on a pony tail or a correctly-positioned barrette to hold hair in place, look nice to me. A ribbon/bow is often too big for my taste.

I've seen this thing wear girls wrap their hair around long ribbons, in kind of a braid. The ribbons are really colorful. and the result is hot.
