I was advised to avoid velcros for gear, as they wear out in a couple of years of daily use.
Do you have any experience with this?

I have never seen the velcro itself wear out. Ever. But I guess if the stitching between the velcro pad and the canvas wears out the whole thing will rip off. military gear uses snaps/locking stuff for anything important but I think the reason is because that's safer when you have a lot of weight. You don't want to trust velcro to keep your rifle from falling on the ground and getting broken.
Probably...
Velcro is literally just hooks and loops; short of the latter ripping, HOW could it "wear out"?
The question is: how fast.
And the answer is "tens of billions of years, through universal entropy, unless there's some mechanical method I'm missing".
Probably missing :D
@NamerOfStars I think he's referring to the part that sticks to the other part.
@Jamie05rhs Yes- and I'm saying that the mechanism that holds them together is literally just hooks and loops. You can see this yourself by looking very closely at it (you may need a magnifying glass). Short of the loops tearing, it CAN'T break, because there's nothing TO break.
Ummm 🤔
Can't the loops break?
The loops can definitely get clogged, though.
@Jamie05rhs That they can- but it's not exactly brain surgery to clear them.
Yes- that's why I said "short of the latter breaking".
Lol. It can be pretty difficult sometimes.
Depends how strong the velcro is. Some are better quality than others
Ummm 🤔
